Dear STANDOUT Community,
As we approach the winter break, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past week and share a few important updates.
First, I’m pleased to report that our recent safety drill went exceptionally well. It was a success thanks to the cooperation and calm displayed by all students, staff, and faculty. The goal of these drills is always to ensure that everyone is prepared and knows exactly what to do in case of an emergency. Your participation and attentiveness are vital to making our school a safe and secure environment, and I’m grateful for how seriously everyone took this exercise. I also want you to know that Speak Up Speak Out is an avenue to report anything over the break if you are unable to reach the school.
Looking ahead, we have just three weeks left in the semester after we return from break. The countdown is on, and I encourage everyone to use the time before the holiday to stay focused on your studies and wrap up any assignments. Remember, finals and assessments are just around the corner, and it’s important to finish the semester strong. Teachers will be reviewing key material and helping students prepare, so please take advantage of any extra help they offer.
I hope you all take time to relax and recharge over the winter break. Whether you’re spending the time with family, pursuing a hobby, or just catching up on rest, make sure to come back ready for the final push before we close out the semester. There’s plenty to accomplish in the next three weeks, but I’m confident that with focus and determination, we’ll finish strong.
Wishing you all a safe and joyful holiday season. See you in the new year!
Counselor's Corner
Dear Seniors and parents,
We hosted a Financial Aid meeting last week. Katie Sprunger from Edgewood came to explain the FAFSA and other things related to Financial Aid. She gave us permission to share her PowerPoint presentation(please see attached), which is very detailed. If you have further FAFSA/Financial Aid questions, she encourages people to please reach out to her(ksprunger@edgewood.edu).
With Cardinal Pride,
Nick Whalen

Resources for Parents
Dear caregivers of Marshall students,
Here are some really helpful resources for you to explore and connect with your child about Monday's school shooting.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has a one-page resource intended for families to help process grief and traumatic events. This resource provides steps to help families discuss tragic events and feelings, and to help kids process.
The Talking to Children about the Shooting resource offers guidance on talking with children when scary things occur. There is also another helpful resource available specifically on speaking to children about school shootings.
This resource from the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement helps families and educators in talking to kids about tragedies they may see in the news.
As always, the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Speak Up, Speak Out Resource Center is available to help communities in need. The Speak Up, Speak Out’s Resource Center is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-MY-SUSO-1 (1-800-697-8761) or via email at schoolsafety@doj.state.wi.us.

SkillsUSA Students STANDOUT at District 4 Competition in Watertown!
Wednesday, December 11th, 2024 the Marshall SkillsUSA team went to the District 4 Competition in Watertown. We took eight students to compete. For the first time Marshall had other entries than just welding. Alex Moreth for Advertising Design, Sheldon Stransky for Related Technical Math, Blake Staplemann for Facilithon, Maddy Weyh and Ciara Dowdy for First Aid, and Lucas Schlimgen, Carson Connelly, and Jake Eustice for Welding.
I am so proud to say that all the Marshall Cardinals stood out tonight. We ended up bringing home four medals at the end of the competitions. Blake Staplemann placed first in the Facilithon. It truly is an honor to be a part of such an outstanding group of Cardinals.
