June Character Focus: Pride
Feeling happy and pleased with your accomplishments and the accomplishments of those around you.
As we end another successful year at BVS, we are focusing on celebrating and feeling proud of our accomplishments. Many wonderful things have happened at BVS this school year, and our students and staff have grown in many ways. From our youngest learners celebrating the first year of their educational journey at our Kindergarten Celebration, to our 5th graders being honored for all of their BVS accomplishments at our 5th Grade Moving-Up Day, and the growth all of our students sandwiched in between, I am so proud of each of you!
As we move into summer, our PTSA will already be planning for our biggest fundraiser of the year, the BVS Fun Run! Our hope is that this fundraiser will be a smashing success that eliminates the need for any additional fundraising. Jamie Gulino Davis will be heading up the BVS Fun Run Committee and welcomes all who are interested to join in the planning. Please consider reaching out to Jamie directly to join in planning an event that will fun for all and will greatly benefit our entire learning community. For more information on the BVS Fun Run and how to connect with Jamie, see below.
In closing, I want to personally thank you for an amazing school year. It is a pleasure and an honor to spend my days at BVS, working alongside our incredible staff and watching your children learn and grow. I wish you a wonderful, fun-filled summer. As always, if you need anything, even over the summer, please reach out. We are here for you!
Time to Celebrate!
Boston Valley Learning Community Expectations
Kiwanis Terrific Kids
BVS partners with the Kiwanis Club of Hamburg to recognize students from each grade level who are demonstrating the characterstics of a Terrific Kid in all the spaces they live and learn at BVS. "Terrific" Kid stands for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable. Congratulations to these students who were honored as BVS Kiwanis Terrific Kids for the month of April!
Counselor Corner
For the month of June, we will finish off our year learning about and practicing Pride. Feeling happy and pleased with your accomplishments and the accomplishments of those around you is a feeling that never gets old.
Being the best learners we can be and making our learning community a great place for everyone to live and learn are staple BVS Expectations that we consistently discuss and live by in our building. But also this month being proud of the work our students and staff have done academically, as well as socially, is what we will be focusing on. Here’s to a great end of the year and a fun and healthy summer!

Please join us for our next meeting on Wednesday, June 4

Notes from the Health Office
The weather is warming up and the end of the school year is quickly approaching. With that in mind, please remember to send your children to school with a water bottle, appropriate footwear for outside recess and sunscreen, if needed. Sunscreen is not to be applied without a doctor’s order during school hours.
Those with outstanding physicals have been contacted. You will continue to get notification until a physical is received or notification of an upcoming appointment.
For those students that have medication in the health office. You will be receiving notification about the end of the school year pick up. All meds not picked up by the last day of school will be discarded. Just a reminder that students that receive medications during school hours need an updated order from their doctor each school year.
For those students in Grade 5…we are already getting ready to transition them to Middle School. Students who are entering into Grade 6 need their TDAP booster vaccination and 2 doses of Varicella completed. Send in documentation if your child has already received these required vaccinations or will be receiving them prior to the end of the school year. If your child’s birthday falls between late June to September, forward necessary documentation to the Middle School health office.
Any other questions or concerns can be directed to the Health Office 646-3242.

News from the Main Office
Notice of Student Absence, Early Pick-up or Dismissal Changes
If your child is going to be absent from school, please contact us as soon as possible to avoid receving an automated phone call notifying you that your child is not in school. We also need notification if you will be picking your child up prior to dismissal, or need to change their dismissal plans for the day. The earlier in the day you can notify us, the better.
For your convenience, you can reach our main office staff and the school nurse by emailing bvs@hcsdk12.org with infomation regarding dismissal or an absence from school. We also accept hand written notes sent in with your child to notify us of an early pick up or dismissal change. You are always welcome to speak to someone in person by calling Boston Valley Elementary at (716) 646-3240.
Lost Something?
We may have found it! We have many items in our Lost and Found, including coats, hats, boots, water bottles, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and more! Lost and Found is located in the foyer. Please feel free to stop in and take a look if there is an item your child is missing. We are also in the process of adding a section to the BVS Website with pictures of the items currently in our Lost and Found. All remaining items will be donated after the school year ends.
Need Tech Help?
We are here for you! Email tech@hcsdk12.org with a summary of the problem you are experiencing and assistance will be provided.
Boston Valley Elementary School Handbook
The Boston Valley Elementary School Handbook can be accessed here. The handbook can also always be found on the Boston Valley Website under the tab titled "Our School." Many frequently asked questions can be found by referencing the handbook. In our handbook you will find a reminder about student birthdays. We are not able to welcome food or non-food treats to school to be passed out in the classroom. Student birthdays are recognized on the morning announcements, and classroom teachers have shared how students will be celebrated in the classroom.

The Bus is Part of Our BVS Learning Community
As we talk about making our BVS Learning Community a great place for everyone, it is important to remind our students that the bus is part of our learning community. Please review the dot points below with your child to help them understand how to ride the bus safely and in alignment with our BVS expectations.
- Be kind and respectful to your bus driver. This means listening and following directions the bus driver gives. This also means following the rules of the bus because it is the right thing to do.
- Be kind and respectful to your fellow bus riders. This means using kind words and actions, and keeping your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Make the bus a great place for everyone to be.
- Use a volume one voice. On the bus, this means to talk quietly with those seated with you or across the aisle.
- Upon boarding the bus, report to your assigned seat and remain seated until it is time to exit the bus.
- If you experience a problem on the bus, please bring it to the attention of the bus driver.
