June's Raven Report by Lyla Simmons, Emily Fischbach & Sloane Riendeau
A Year in Review:
Welcome to this year's final edition of the Raven Report. We hope you enjoyed this school year. After all of the sports, tests, and exciting activities, we ended the year off with finals and PATs. We hope that everybody has an amazing summer break and we look forward to seeing our new grade seven, eight, and nine students next school year. To our grade nine students, we hope you had a great time at Rudolph Hennig and we wish you the best of luck starting high school next year.
Activities:
This year has been eventful with many days full of fun and memorable activities including the Foods Banquet hosted by Mrs. Bayes and her students, the performance arts plays of, Into the Woods on March 19th and 20th and Murder of the Masquerade on June 3rd, as well as the trip taken by the grade nine students down to Marmot Basin, Jasper.
Students this year focused hard and worked to accomplish their goals, raising a large sum of money and food to donate to the Terry Fox Organization and Canadian Food Bank. Special appreciation towards Mr. Reid's home room, 91H for getting RHJ recognized in the local newspaper and on the radio. With the year wrapping up we said goodbye to our grade nine students during their farewell on the 6th, admiring the achievements and dedication they put in during their years here on stage in front of family, friends and teachers. We applaud Kaia Katchur for her exceptional job this year, achieving the citizenship award. Her dedication to involving herself within the school doesn't go unnoticed.
Congratulations to all of those who attended and good luck throughout your upcoming years in education. Thanks to all involved in the parent council as well as volunteers and educators for stepping up to the plate to help enjoy the year.
Thanks to Miss Christopher for organizing a special field trip day for the grade nines on June 23. They will go bowling and then back to the school to playfield games and have a barbecue. Thank you to everyone who helped put that together, we’re extremely grateful.
Sports:
Throughout the year our RHJ athletes have put a lot of hard work and dedication into their sports performances. With the 2024-25 season coming to an end here’s a recap.
In September, volleyball started up and through a rollercoaster of a season the athletes had lots of fun and made memories that’ll last a lifetime even though they didn’t come out on top.
In October, our cross country athletes blew us away with their performance with seven of our runners qualifying for zones! Special shoutout to Dylan Rose-Ruth who came out with a gold and silver medal in the race.
In November, basketball started up. Although the junior basketball teams didn’t place in their tournaments, they made memories that’ll last a lifetime. The senior boys basketball team placed fifth in their tournament, while the senior girls placed third.
Moving over to archery, our archers had their first tournament, on March 1st at Lillian Schick. They came home with second; Lyla Simmons brought home gold with a score of 272!
Starting in March, our badminton season started. The Junior team would have a tournament on April 23rd while the Seniors had theirs the day before on April 22nd. Although they worked really hard, unfortunately they weren’t able to receive any medals.
At the start of May, track and field started up. May 16th was a beautiful day for Rudolph Hennig to have their annual school wide track meet with Southpointe and Fort Christian. There were a few sunburns but lots of smiles. Our athletes did an amazing job at their events with lots of our athletes getting some personal bests! Later in the month of May, students had the option to join the school track team. They had practices after school to prepare for the county meet in Sherwood Park, on May 27th. Three of our amazing athletes qualified for zones on June 3rd: Alexa Penno earned a gold and silver medal in the 100m and 200m dash, Emma Reid received a bronze in shot put, and Dylan Rose-Ruth received two golds in the 1500m and 2000m!
Rudolph Hennig has officially brought back their golf team! They had a tournament on June 2nd with our mixed doubles team: Berlyn Dach, Hunter Jacobs, Cameron Krueger, and Weston Bonne getting third place and Sophie Rolinger getting fifth! We’re looking forward to this team continuing in upcoming years.
We’re extremely proud of all our student athletes and we hope to see the same hard work and dedication next year. Go Ravens!
Finals/PATs:
We hope that all students did well on their PATs and finals! We are so proud of everybody for coming to school and finishing these tests, even if they are stressful. Thanks to everybody who tried to be quieter in the hallways when people were writing and after a long year of studying (maybe), and doing quizzes, the 2024-25 school year has come to an end.
Summer Break:
After months of learning this year's curriculum, it's now coming to an end on the 25th. We wish you a good summer and we'll see you back at school on August 28th.
Pre-order your 2024-25 yearbook!
Yearbooks can now be ordered online through your PowerSchool Parent Portal! Login and proceed to fees to add the yearbook to your cart for payment. Mrs. Gray and some of our RHJ students are working together on the book to capture the memories from this school year. So you have an idea of what you're ordering: the book will be a hard cover, colour printed book with 72 pages.
We are looking for yearbook photos!
We are looking to compile images of a wide range of students that you'd like to see printed in our 2024-25 Yearbook! If you have any pictures of students that you think would be great to include, you can do so by downloading the Friesen's UPloadIt app and signing up with the school code 307101. From there, you can upload 1 image at a time and it will go directly to our yearbook committee.
Thanks in advance! We will accept photos until June 15th!
REMINDER: 2024-25 school fees
School fees for the 2024-25 school year are posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. Throughout the year, fees are often added to cover the costs for various activities, such as field trips, extracurricular activities, and late, damaged or lost textbooks.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view fees and pay them online using a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card. Make sure to monitor your child’s account on an ongoing basis.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit eips.ca/schools/fees. And, if you have questions, think there’s an error or need help creating a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, contact your child’s school directly before the summer break.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pursuant to Board Policy 23: School Fees and Administrative Procedure 505: School and Administrative Fees, EIPS will forward any unpaid 2024-25 fee amounts to a collection agency. To prevent this from happening, remember to pay your fees before Aug. 31, 2025.
Did you know?
Each school has a School Education Plan on its website. Annually, these plans are updated for the next school year to reflect schools’ goals, strategies and measures—all based on priorities found in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan. School administration update their plans after reviewing school-specific results from the EIPS Annual Feedback Survey and consulting with staff, families and school councils in April. A School Education Plan helps a school community focus on what’s most important in its own specific context from year to year. To view your child’s School Education Plan, visit www.rudolphhennig.ca and find the relevant home page block.
Student Transportation: 2025-26 registration
Planning to use Student Transportation in the 2025-26 school year? If so, make sure your child is registered so Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) can plan routes and send your child a bus pass before the first day of school.
All students who indicated needing transportation services through the returning student or new student registration processes are now registered. Those families have also received tentative route schedules and invoices—fees are due June 30, 2025.
For those students who did not indicate needing transportation services during the registration process and want to now register, complete a Busing Setup form through the Transportation Service Desk.
NOTE: Families can pay fees online using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. To pay in-person, visit the EIPS Student Transportation building during its office hours—Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school closure days.
