URGENT: Board of Ed Meeting TONIGHT
Topic: Budget, Staffing, and School Portfolio Planning
Join us tonight at 6:30 pm at the Board of Education to urge the Board and the SFUSD to lead a transparent and effective decision-making process that engages ALL educational partners in meaningful consultation.
BACKGROUND:
During the presentation, the Superintendent will share the District's approach to developing bold proposals actionable within one year to:
- Establish a school staffing model so that each school is staffed based on each schools enrollment
- Restructure District-wide services to serve students and sites more effectively and efficiently
- Explore opportunities to leverage the District's property to generate more value for District students
- Prioritize resourcing programs that have demonstrated success toward positive student outcomes
- Recommend additional measures to align the district's operations with current and projected enrollment, including criteria for potential mergers, co-locations, or closures of school sites
Additionally, the Superintendent will discuss convening a District Advisory Committee to meet on an at least monthly basis to deliberate and provide public feedback on each of the above proposals.
The Board of Education will not be expected to take action during this special meeting.
Let's hold SFUSD to the promises they have made to students and families in this district:
- Effective Decision-Making: The superintendent will make major decisions by utilizing a process–that includes meaningful consultation with the parents/guardians, students, and staff who will be impacted by those decisions–at the inception, adoption, and review.
- Serving the Whole Child: Create learning environments in all SFUSD schools that foster highly engaged and joyful learners and that support every student reaching his or her potential.
- Curriculum and Instruction: The superintendent will prioritize curriculum and instruction that is rooted in excellence, challenging and engaging student-centered, culturally responsive, or differentiated to meet the academic needs of all students.
- Resource Allocation: The superintendent will align resource allocation with transparent communication about how the allocations are baseline sufficient to operate all schools while addressing inequitable inputs and creating more equity and excellence in student outcomes.
- Strategic Partnerships: The superintendent will support collaboration with the City of San Francisco, state and federal agencies, community-based organizations, philanthropic organizations, and the business community to advance the district’s goals and values.
Here is how the community is getting involved!
From Mega Black
Thanks for engaging in the conversation this past week on SF school district closures. Attached
here is the link to our word cloud. As mentioned, this is only the start of the discussion. This will be a series topic as we receive updates on what’s to come.
As a reminder, a protest at 555 Franklin Street will begin at 5:30pm to protest school closures. Later that night, a Board of Education special meeting will be called at 6:30 (zoom link available here). When you join, please change your name to include MEGABLACK, to make our presence known.
Lastly, a template that expresses concern about the state of accountability is available
here. We encourage you to replace the bolded and underlined sections with information that you are concerned about, and send it to the superintendent and school board. With school closures on the horizon, we need to ensure that we are protecting our children, staff, and educational partners.
Peace and Blessings,
MegaBlack
