Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin
Greetings, CUSD Families!
As we prepare to welcome November, I want to highlight a few important dates and reminders for the month ahead.
Next Friday, November 8, marks the end of the 1st marking period, and parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, November 26. I encourage you to take the opportunity to connect with your scholar's teachers and discuss their progress at the conferences.
Additionally, Fall Break will take place on November 28 and 29, and you can find more details about upcoming half days and days off in this edition of Clipper Connection.
A quick reminder about attendance: Having your scholar in school each day is key to their learning and growth. Every day matters, as daily attendance helps them stay on track academically and socially. When students are present, they’re able to take full advantage of the resources and support our schools offer. Let’s work together to ensure they’re ready to learn and are set for a successful academic year.
CUSD’s 2nd Community Meeting
On Tuesday, October 22, we welcomed families and community members to CHS for our second community meeting of the academic year.
For those who couldn’t attend, the presentation and recording are now available on our website.

CUSD Awarded $1.6 Million Grant
I'm thrilled to announce that CUSD has been awarded another state grant!
The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has awarded us a $1.6 million Public School Facilities Improvement Grant (PSFIG) to support the Chester High School Roof Repair Project. This grant will help us renovate 42,500 square feet of roofing at CHS.
This funding highlights our commitment to renovating our facilities and creating safer, more supportive learning spaces for all of our scholars.
Deadline Approaching! Scholarship Opportunities Available!
I want to remind families that new scholarships are continuously added to our district’s dedicated scholarship page.
Currently, there are three scholarships available, but the deadlines are quickly approaching in November.

Football Team Earns Del-Val League Champion Title
We have more Clippers to congratulate. Our football team recently secured the Del-Val League title for the third consecutive year.
They finished the regular season 9-1 and will enter the playoffs as the #1 seed in the 5A Division, marking a historic first for CUSD’s football program! Go Clippers!
Congratulations to our football players, cheerleaders, and coaching staff!
Annual Coat Drive
Last Thursday, we kicked off our Annual Coat Drive at Main Street, just in time to help our scholars get ready for the colder months ahead.
Thanks to CUSD's Chief of Staff, Claudia Averette, who has spearheaded the coat drive for several years, and the dedication of our staff, we’re ensuring our students are well-prepared for winter.
Over the next 2-3 weeks, winter coats will be distributed at our other elementary schools and ESA - Middle School. Families, please check with your scholar’s school for more details!
Main Street Hosts Annual ‘Walk for a Cure’ in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness
Main Street held its annual "Walk for a Cure" event on October 25. Students and staff came together to support breast cancer awareness and honor those affected by the disease.
Participants walked around the school grounds carrying signs with messages of encouragement, and concluded the event by forming a human pink ribbon on the school's back field, symbolizing solidarity and hope.
During the event, the school announced that this year’s donation of $1,100 will be presented to a local Pre-K3 teacher at SonShine Christian School who has recently completed her final chemotherapy treatment.
The donation was made possible through a month-long lollipop fundraiser, a pink dress-down day, and additional contributions from students and staff.
