August 2022
GJH Fundraiser!
Your child should have brought home a flier last Thursday (August 18) with a permission slip at the bottom.
When students turn in a signed permission slip, they'll be able to take home a box of 60 chocolate bars to sell for $1 each. By signing the form, you are agreeing to return $60 for the box by the end of the fundraiser. Unsold chocolate cannot be returned.
Students who sell a full box of chocolate bars can bring another signed permission slip to take home another box to sell. Students who bring their first signed form back by August 31 will be entered in a drawing for extra prizes! Additional prizes are available throughout the event. Every student who sells at least one box will win something.
The fundraiser kickoff assembly will be held on Friday, September 2nd. During the assembly on that day, students will receive more detailed information about the process and the prizes they can win. Students will be able to bring home chocolate that day and begin selling.
If you have questions regarding this year's school fundraiser, please feel free to email Lisa Herschberger at lherschberger@goshenschools.org
Thank you for your support of our fundraiser!
Staff Spotlight: Welcome, Mr. Smucker!
This is my first full year at GJHS. I started at the end of last year helping with 7th period treble choir and I'm excited to have a full day of leading choirs this year! I've lived in Goshen most of my life and studied vocal music and Spanish at Goshen College. GJH staff and the GHS music department have been incredible and I'm excited to continue working with them!
In my free time when I'm doing non-music things, I enjoy working on old cars and playing/watching soccer.
Important Info about Breakfast and Lunch
GCS no longer qualifies for free meals for all students this school year. However, many families will still qualify for free or reduced meal prices.
ALL families are strongly encouraged to complete the application for free and reduced lunches by clicking on this link: https://www.myschoolapps.com/
More detailed information about GCS food services can be found here: https://www.goshenschools.org/food-services/applications
For families that do not qualify for free lunch, you can add money to your child’s lunch account by going to myschoolbucks.com
Safety
1. Cars picking up students should not enter the front parking lot until the buses have left the lot. Please plan to pick up your child at the North or South end of the building instead of in the front.
2. Outside doors will be locked during the school day, with the exception of the main entrance into the Welcome Center.
3. Parents and visitors will check in through the window in the welcome center.
4. The front door of GJH will open at 8:00 each day. As the weather gets colder, students who are dropped off very early may want to make other arrangements to avoid standing out in the cold.
5. Classroom doors will remain locked throughout the school day.
As always, if you have concerns or questions about the safety of students at GJH, please contact us so we can address these.

These meetings will be held at two different times, and parents can choose the time that best fits their schedule.

2021-2022 Yearbooks
If you missed out on ordering last year’s yearbook, they can still be purchased from the GJH bookkeeper, Michelle Strite. The cost is $25. Cash or check, made payable to Goshen Junior High School are acceptable forms of payment.
If you ordered a yearbook for your student, they should have been distributed. If your student has not yet received one, contact Michelle Strite at 533-0391 ext. 31003, or mstrite@goshenschools.org. Yearbooks for 9th Grade students have been sent to the high school to be distributed during SRT.

Please review the expectations for students attending athletic events:

- Students are expected to follow all school rules while attending events. Students not following rules or complying with adult directions may be suspended from attending events for up to the remainder of the school year.
