It's time to start taking a closer look at 2023 children's and picture books with the first reading lists for 2024 Mock Newbery and Mock Caldecott programs. Review the lists, and register for discussions on our website.

The Resource Sharing Certification to be a member Library of Rhode Island (LORI) resource sharing network is open now through Sept 15 (School libraries, Sept 29). A LibGuide is available which includes instructions and documentation for completing the certification in addition to the slides and recording from the July 25 CE.
Building Equity Based Summers Cohort
A virtual information session will be held September 6 at 1pm.
In partnership with the RI Center for the Book, OLIS is offering book sets of the 2024 RI Children Book Award nominees to school libraries planning to participate in voting for the 2024 award in February-March. Due to the limited number of book sets available, priority will be given to school libraries that demonstrate need.

Patron Corner Program September 11
On Monday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. eastern time, the NLS Patron Engagement Section will host the quarterly Patron Corner. The topic for this program is Job Hunting: Dos, Don’ts, Whys and Why nots.
The Many Faces of BARD September 14
The topic for the September 14, 2023, Many Faces of BARD program will be Using Your Braille Display to Read Braille BARD Books on Your iPhone.
The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. eastern time and last for one hour. This program will be recorded.
Talking Books Discussion Group
New dates announced for the Talking Books Discussion Group:
- September 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm
- November 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
You must download at least 1 book during a 6 month period or NLS will automatically suspend your account after 6 months of inactivity. If you find that you cannot login to your BARD account, please contact the Talking Books Staff.
iCanConnect is a national program with local contacts to help people with vision and hearing loss stay connected with friends, family, their community, and the world. In-state services for Rhode Island are provided through the Perkins School for the Blind.
People across the country are struggling with loneliness and seeking connection. WWP’s Stream to Serve program, livestreaming and gaming has become an effective way to address this challenge and help Veterans connect with others, while also empowering supporters to raise funds for wounded, ill and injured warriors.
Save the Date: Blind Health Expo
Save the date for Accessible Pharmacy’s 2nd Annual Blind Health Expo! The Blind Health Expo is a completely virtual event and will be held on Friday, December 1 to Saturday, December 2. The Blind Health Expo is the world’s largest virtual expo of healthcare information, products, services, and medication for individuals in the blind, low vision, and disability communities.
Apply to join Howard County Library System’s Pathways to Success: Professional Development for Skilled New Americans library cohort. Pathways to Success mitigates unemployment and underemployment by expanding services customized for skilled immigrants.
