Thank You To Elder Rita for Sharing Your Story
On Tuesday, February 27, 2024 PPCS was honored to host Rita Decharme for a storytelling evening. It was a small crowd, but a wonderful evening. Rita shared stories of herself growing up and the trials that her family went through. It was, at times emotional, with both tears and laughter. She shared about the resiliency that she learned growing up and how it took her entire family to survive. She spoke of her schooling bouncing back and forth from the "school on the corner" to a school 7 miles away (where her mother felt she would get a better education). As a result, she never really finished anything. Her mother's greatest wish was that she could better her current status.
Rita talked about learning her Metis culture as recently as the 90s, when she was introduced to the Metis sash. She loves learning and sharing her learning with the kids.
Rita is one of only 1100 Michif speakers in all of Canada. She fondly remembers speaking it with aunts and uncles, many of whom have passed away. She regrets not teaching her kids Michif and knows how important ot is for a culture to keep its language.
Huge thanks to Mrs. Christianson for organizing the event (and even doing the baking).
Can You Guess What I Am
Each week, Mr. Mielke will post a pic of a strange object. Submit your answers of what you think it is to ppcs@nesd.ca. All the correct answers will be put into a draw for a weekly prize.
Last weeks item was a film canister, the winner was Daveny Thorpe.
Can you guess this week's item?

Volunteers and Athletes of the Month
Faye Pascual
Faye has been a part of the score table at all of our Sr. Boys games to handle the duties of shot clock. She is dependable, willing to learn and has an accurate thumb on the switch. Thanks Faye for all of your help with Bears Athletics.
Athletes of the Month
JR Antazo
JR stepped up at our home tournament playing some great defense and pushing the pace of the game. He is back in full form to slicing and dicing through the defense attacking the rim or popping out to knock down an open 3. Great month JR and good luck down the stretch.
Venna Kiehn
Venna has emerged as a very skilled player on the curling ice. She executes great shots yet always seems to be having fun and encouraging others. She has been a huge help with new players and being a role model for her team and the sport. You rock Venna.

Check Your Punch Card Balance
Please note, as we get used to this new system, please be aware that punch card balances may be up to 1 week behind.
Once you click the link below and find your child's account number, you will see a number to the left of their account number (i.e. 17). That number will not change, so you only have to remember that number going forward.
We hope that this will help our families.
