Campout Celebration Lights up Mrs. Larson's Classroom with Unforgettable Reading Adventure!
What an incredible day in Otto Petersen’s Mrs. Larson’s classroom! Today, to celebrate the last day of regular reading groups, the class had an unforgettable reading campout, and it was truly magical!
Students entered the class with the gentle chirping of crickets in the background and the ambiance of a carefully crafted (fake) campfire. The lesson was dreamed up by Educational Assistants Lisa Loncosky and Jami DeLashmit, who, along with Mrs. Larson, went the extra mile to ensure campout was an unforgettable experience. They transformed the classroom into a cozy haven, complete with a tent and picnic blankets, where students were immediately immersed in reading a fun campout story by Reader’s Theater.
Seeing the students' faces light up with joy as they bonded over the story they were reading, laughter, and s’mores was heartwarming. Today wasn't just about celebrating their progress in reading; it was about creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Nature's Classroom: Tualatin Hills Nature Park Delights Explorers with Adaptation Discoveries
Grant Watts students had fun Exploring Tualatin Hills Nature Park earlier this week!
The students ventured out to learn about plant and animal adaptations as they trekked through the trails. They simulated bird beaks with tools to see how various birds gather food, they also compared animal skulls and felt pelts to learn about animal survival adaptations. Students also enjoyed spotting wildlife like a small snake, squirrels, birds, a chipmunk, and a frog!
A highlight for the students was when they pretended to be birds with different "beaks" (utensils) to see which ones worked best for eating different foods. They also explored many plant features like bark, leaves, roots, and seed pods. Check out these snapshots from the day! Everyone had a blast and learned so much about nature!
