St. Jerome School Summer Newsletter
July 20th, 2022
“Unfurl the sails, and let God steer us where He will.”
St. Bede the Venerable
From Mr. Merrick
Dear St. Jerome Families,
We all hope that your summer vacations have been going well, and we welcome all of our new families to St. Jerome School. We have some exciting news and updates to share- but also are all glad that we still have quite a bit of the summer vacation to go!
This July newsletter contains some reminders and information as we continue through the summer including the summary calendar, uniform requirements, and links to the supply lists and summer assignments. Also, please see below for information about our uniform swap tonight and next Tuesday. For this evening, due to the parking lot repairs, the uniform swap will be set up in the church narthex. Haley Quinn’s food truck will be located near the front of church. Parking is available on the street near the entrance to church.
We have a few personnel changes as we move through the summer. Mrs. Mensch has taken a position elsewhere, and we thank her for her dedication to our school and wish her the best. Mr. Casee and Mrs. Kennedy will also be moving on, but they will still be very close. Mrs. Kennedy will be the secretary for St. Lucy School, and Mr. Casee is going to be the math and technology specialist for St. Lucy. We are excited that they will still be on our campus and act as bridges since they are familiar with both schools.
In addition, Miss Labovitz will be moving to technology as well as working to start a Spanish language program here at St. Jerome. Therefore, as of today, we welcome three new teachers to our faculty:
- Ms. Annie Wolfe (SJS Class of 2014) to 2nd Grade
- Ms. Taylor Madison (SJS Class of 2014) to 4th Grade
- Mrs. Alison Gipson (joining us from St. Matthew School) to 7th Grade B
We congratulate our Students of the Month for June; these students were recognized for living the virtue of hope and trying to live it for June (as well as the entire year) as a combination of all of the virtues that we practiced this year: Yaretza Mata, McKenna Cordalis, Alexa Pesce, Kaden Ewing, Cole Eib, Ruslan Kibis, Callie Gallagher, Salvatore Johnson, Jr., Amelia Brown, Alexandra McCormac, Hannah Grogan, Nicholas Cruz, Afanwi Neba, Chase Czop, Sarah Harmon, and Alex Vena.
We appreciate the contributions of the St. Jerome School Class of 1973 and their continued generosity in presenting an annual scholarship to a seventh grader student of integrity, respect, compassion, courage, and reason. We are pleased to announce that Brynn O’Donnell, rising 8th grader, was presented with this scholarship for her 8th grade year at St. Jerome on the last day of school.
Our summer office hours are 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. We can be reached in the office for general inquiries at info@sjsphila.org or 215-624-0637. The school office is closed on Fridays. I myself will be away this next week and a half to get some vacation time in before August and the final preparations for the new school year.
Please be on the lookout in August for a welcome email or letter from your child's homeroom teacher. CARES information will be sent out in August as well. Our next newsletter will also have some updates about our summer projects which are well underway. In the meantime, we hope that you all continue to have a safe and pleasant summer.
Have a great rest of the week; St. Jerome, pray for us!
