ALICE Drill
At school we practice EVERYTHING! We practice math facts, how to line up to wash our hands, procedures for science experiments, where classes need to be when we line up, the way to walk in the hallway, how we act when riding the bus, and so forth. We also practice how to keep our students and staff safe. We practice what to do if there were to be a tornado or a fire, what to do if an intruder were to come into the school, or what to do when there is another urgent safety situation.
Here is more information about our ALICE drills. ~ Fall 2023 ALICE Family Letter

Costume Parade
We will have a Costume Parade on Tuesday, October 31 at 9:00 am. Click HERE to view the outdoor parade route and click HERE to view the indoor parade route if needed. The parade order will be:
- 9:00 - 3rd Grade
- 9:05 - OSC
- 9:10 - 4th Grade
- 9:15 - 5th Grade
Students will be able to wear costumes (please be mindful to make sure they are appropriate for school and younger students - no weapons or scary masks). Kids do not need to wear a costume to participate. They will need to have clothes they can wear for the rest of the day under their costume. For this reason, please do not do full face painting/make-up.
Nurses Notes
It’s hard to believe that we are going into the month of October already. October is a good month to have a yearly flu vaccine and updated COVID vaccine.
The CDC recommends children 6 months and older an annual flu vaccine by the end of October. The CDC also recommends all eligible individuals 6 months and older shoulder an updated COVID-19 vaccine. When children and their families are vaccinated, it helps protect the risk of getting seriously ill.
For more information:
Frequent hand-washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading illness. It is a good reminder to wash their hands throughout the day. Although it’s impossible to keep hands germ-free, washing hands with soap and water throughout the day can help limit the transfer of bacteria, viruses, and other microbes.
For more information:
A friendly reminder with any virus to keep your child home until they are 24 hours vomit, diarrhea, and/or fever free without fever reducing medications. Also, when your child(s) symptoms have improved.
Please reach out to any changes in your students' health or if you have any questions or concerns.

Taher Foodservice
Fall Greetings to Students and Families!
What a great start to the new school year! We had fresh sweet corn donated by our local farmer Scott Ness. This is the second year in a row the Ness Family has been a partner with Taher and Lodi schools in bringing farm fresh local food to our cafeterias. Thank you!
We have brought back the fresh fruit and vegetable bar this year. It is important to introduce students to all sorts of fruits and vegetables. Everyone loves the variety and the students really enjoy asking questions about the different fruits and vegetables. One of our students told me “that can’t be a pear as they come in a can and they are white and in pieces” I explained that they look like that after they have been sent to a factory and canned. It took a little bit of convincing but she tried the pear and declared she loved it! Plums have also been a big hit.
We will be doing the Great Apple Crunch on October 12th at lunch. We will have local apples and all the schools will crunch at lunchtime. This is sponsored by The Apple Growers and everyone across Wisconsin will be doing the crunch that day to support all of our local apple orchards.
Also as a reminder if your child wants a second entrée it is available for an extra charge.
Lastly please welcome our newest addition to the Elementary Foodservice Ann Hale. Please say hi and make her feel welcome!
Have a great Fall!

Art News
We have had an awesome start to art class this year! All students are participating in the Sqaure1 Art fundraiser again. Each grade level has been working hard on different projects, which will be digitalized and available to order on different products including water bottles, keychains, mugs and more! Every student will get stickers of their artwork for participating. 33% of the money raised will go directly to the primary/elementary art program to buy supplies like paint, brushes, clay, glaze, ect. More information about ordering will be in the next newsletter.
We are also excited to be partnering with the Associated Bank in Lodi again this year! Each month, different grade levels will have art on display at the bank. First grade will be up for the month of October so if you get the chance, stop by and see what we have been working on!
Members of the Lodi School Board had the opportunity to pick out artwork at the Lodi Fair this summer. The pieces they chose were framed and will be on display at every board meeting this year. This collaboration is to showcase our younger artists and serves as a great reminder who we are all here for.

Library News
Hello from the Elementary School/OSC Library! It has been a joy to welcome everyone back to the library! The kids are having fun checking out books, and it’s what we love to see! I’m Ms. Good, the librarian at the primary school, OSC, and the elementary school. Ms. Skelton, (usually called Miss Skeleton,) is the library assistant and helps classes with their book checkouts, among many other things!
We have had about 4 lessons this year, have read some great books, and have quickly gotten into the swing of things. A few topics we’ve learned about or reviewed are:
Expected library behaviors, including taking good care of the books!
The difference between fiction and nonfiction
Which books are in different sections of the library
How to use Destiny: our program on the computer that allows us to search all of the books in our library and look up which books you have checked out, etc.
We’ve also ordered a ton of new books and it’s been exciting getting them out for everyone!
Students can check books out for 10 school days. They can check out 3 books a day and 6 total, but we encourage them to take what they need. We are looking forward to a great year!
Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions at goodamy@lodischoolswi.org.
Happy reading,
Ms. Good
Music News
Third Grade musicians at LES enjoyed a fun lesson making right brain/left brain connections by crossing the center line of their body with a hand game while singing classic Miss Mary Mack.
Fifth Grade musicians at LES have been busy composing their own song by personalizing the lyrics to "I Love the Mountains" to things that they love!
