Community Newsletter : May 2025
Good afternoon Woolie families,
We are officially in the home stretch of the school year as we have turned the corner into the month of May! Knowing that we are down to the last weeks of the 2024-2025 school year, we wanted to make sure to share out this newsletter outlining the many things taking place throughout the month. From MCAS and AP testing, to performances and award ceremonies, and then culminating in the big build-up to Graduation, this edition of the Community Newsletter has it all!
We feel fortunate to have so many amazing activities taking place for all of our students and we hope that you can join us at a variety of the events taking place. Our students and staff are working tirelessly to continue our focus on teaching and learning to close out the 2024-2025 school year strongly and we are excited to showcase all that we have been doing.
Again, as I have said in the past, we genuinely cannot thank you all enough for your continued support of all that we are doing here at the Junior-Senior High School. We pride ourselves on continuing to have so many amazing things taking place for our students and families.
Sincerely,
Chris Lowe

Please see the email shared with 8th-grade families regarding our upcoming PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science Pilot Course
April 15, 2025
Millbury Public Schools
Dear Parents and Guardians of Eighth Grade Students,
We are excited to share a new and innovative opportunity for a group of rising ninth graders at Millbury Jr./Sr. High School for the 2025–2026 school year. Beginning next school year, we will be piloting a dynamic new course—Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS)—as an engaging and hands-on alternative to traditional freshman biology.
This full-year course is part of the nationally recognized PLTW Biomedical Science program and is designed to fulfill the Grade 9 biology requirement while providing a rigorous, real-world learning experience that sparks curiosity and deepens students' understanding of life sciences. Students will explore biology, medicine, and human body systems by investigating medical mysteries and analyzing physiological data. Along the way, they will diagnose patient illnesses, track disease outbreaks, and even design innovative medical solutions through collaborative problem-solving. The course aligns with Massachusetts Grade 9–10 Biology Standards and offers students the opportunity to build critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific inquiry skills while being exposed to careers in health, science, and technology.
Our long-term vision is to transition all 9th-grade students into this course by the 2026–2027 school year, replacing the current 9th-grade biology course with this applied science experience. For the upcoming 2025–2026 school year, we will launch one pilot section of the course with a maximum of 24 students.
To gauge interest, we recently invited all 8th-grade students to complete a form indicating whether they would like to be considered for this pilot. Those who expressed interest will be entered into a lottery system to ensure a fair selection process. Due to limited availability and high interest, 24 students will be randomly selected to participate in the course. Families of selected students will be notified in early May and asked to confirm their child’s participation.
We are thrilled to offer this forward-thinking learning experience and are excited to see the impact it will have on student engagement and understanding of biological concepts. If you have any questions about the course, the lottery process, or our plans for future expansion, please don’t hesitate to contact me at clowe@millburyschools.org.
Thank you for your continued support of innovation and excellence in our schools.
Sincerely,
Christopher Lowe
