Appeals Process closes on Monday, May 20th at 9:00 am
District 181 has a placement appeals process for students who do not fully meet the 2024-2025 Approved Math Criteria and/or the 2024-2025 Approved ELA/ACE Criteria. If your child does not fully meet the criteria linked above, there are two options available for appeals:
1. The Department of Learning automatically appeals on behalf of students whose MAP, Common Assessment Average, or Placement Writing Assessment (PWA) scores are close to the scores needed to be automatically placed into advanced courses. Criteria for automatic appeals are listed in the Appeals sections of the 2024-2025 Approved Math Criteria or the 2024-2025 Approved ELA/ACE Criteria, which can both be found on the Placement, Advancement & Acceleration page of the D181 website.
- PLEASE NOTE - math students who qualify under the automatic appeals category will be given an END OF COURSE assessment to finalize their qualification for Summer Bridge. End of Course assessments will be administered between Wednesday, May 15 and Monday, May 20, 2024. Students who qualify for and pass the end of course math assessment will be invited to attend Summer Bridge via email by Tuesday, May 21.
2. If your child does not qualify for an automatic appeal and you would like to further appeal your child’s math, language arts, and/or social studies placement for the fall, families will have a Placement Appeals Form visible at the bottom of their placement letter in their Skyward account. Completion of the Placement Appeals Form is the ONLY METHOD for appealing your child’s course placement for next year. Emails to teachers, principals, and/or staff in the Department of Learning will NOT be considered for a placement appeal.
You can find your child’s “Other ID” under the “Student Info” section of Skyward. If you have questions about the name of your child’s current math, language arts, or social studies course, this information can be found under the “Schedule” button in your Skyward account. The Placement Appeals Form will close at 9:00am on Monday, May 20 - no appeals will be accepted beyond this point.
The D181 appeals committee, composed of various D181 teachers and administrators, will conduct an anonymous data review and make a final determination on student placement. FINAL 2024-2025 math placements for rising 3rd-8th grade students and A-ELA and ACE placements for rising 6th-8th grade students will be sent via email on Friday, May 31 to parents who appealed their child’s original placement. No further appeals will be accepted beyond this point.
