A Message From Your Principal
Dear Eames Way Families,
What a wonderful week we have had at EWS! Following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our students engaged in meaningful discussions and activities that reinforced his powerful message of acceptance, kindness, and unity. This week also marked our annual Acceptance Spirit Week, where students explored the beauty of diversity in creative and thoughtful ways.
In classrooms across all grades, students made connections between diversity and snowflakes—each one spectacularly beautiful in its uniqueness. Through conversations with their Big and Little Friends, they shared similarities and differences, discovering what makes them special while also celebrating what brings them together. We also explored what it truly means to belong and how, at Eames Way School, every student is a valued and important part of our community.
In addition to these powerful discussions, we are incredibly proud of the 127 footprints that have been submitted so far for our GRIT Challenge! Students are pushing themselves to develop perseverance, determination, and a growth mindset, and we can’t wait to see even more footprints added in the weeks to come.
Thank you for your continued support in making Eames Way School a place where students grow not only as learners but also as compassionate, resilient individuals. We hope everyone has a warm and relaxing weekend!
Warm regards,
Ms. Bishop
Principal

After School Enrichment Program
If your student is interested in participating in the EWS After School Enrichment Program (ASEP), please complete this application: EWS ASEP Application. The EWS ASEP is available to students in Grades 2-5 and will be held on Thursdays from February 27th - April 3rd from 3:30-4:30 pm (with a make-up date of Thursday, April 10th, if needed). Registrations are due by January 30th.
You may submit payment through UniPay or your student may bring in cash or a check for $70 made payable to "Town of Marshfield" (Memo: EWS ASEP). Please note, if you're paying for more than one student, put the total for all students into the "pay amount" box and include all of their first names in the "first name" box.
The medical form will be sent home with acceptance letters in student backpacks on February 3rd. The medical form will need to be returned to Erika Joyal, Program Director, by February 7th.
If you have any questions about the EWS ASEP, please contact Erika Joyal at ejoyal@mpsd.org.
Indoor Recess Clarification
Ideally, our goal is to have students enjoy fresh air and fun at outdoor recess as often as possible. Unfortunately, we've had to shift to indoor recess quite a bit lately due to the weather. To clarify, we take several factors into consideration and make a decision as soon as possible. Factors include:
- The "feels like" temperature (the threshold for indoor recess is approximately colder than 18 degrees OR warmer than 90 degrees)
- Condition of the playground and blacktop recess area (is it icy, muddy, etc)
- Wind (the school experiences stronger wind conditions due to being up on the hill)
We appreciate your patience and flexibility during these winter months to ensure the safety and health of our students!

- Helmets are required for everyone under the age of 18.
- There are no rentals available at the facility so you must provide your own skates and helmets.

- Pilgrim Skating Arena requires a waiver.
- As for payment, there is a small credit card processing free via PT Board. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, select that option at checkout and PTO will collect cash/checks at the event. Checks should be made payable to Eames Way PTO.

Nurse Update - Healthy Winter Season!
Here are a few tips to stay healthy and stop the spread of germs this winter season:
Practice hand hygiene frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. If a tissue is not available, cover them with an elbow, not a hand.
Clean high-touch surfaces in your home frequently with household disinfectants.
Keep your child home from school if they have a fever, especially in combination with a cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, congestion, runny nose, or sore throat. They should remain home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
Avoid social gatherings if you or your children are ill.
Proper handwashing, nutrition, adequate hydration, and regular sleep are the best ways to prevent illness. These strategies also shorten the duration of an illness.
Helpful tips for students to be successful at school:
Healthy Snack: Please pack a healthy snack EVERY DAY. Great snacks include easy-to-eat fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, carrots, and cucumbers as well as whole grain snacks including granola bars, and crackers. Cheese sticks and yogurts are another great option. These ideas help keep hungry bellies at bay and students ready to learn!
Water Bottle; Have your child bring a water bottle to school EVERY DAY. The students have access to the bottle fillers and can refill their water bottles as needed throughout the day.
Proper Sleep: “Sleep is the power source that recharges students during the night so they can thrive during the day.” (American Academy of Sleep Medicine)
Cold Weather Gear: We want to be able to send students outside for as long as possible despite the chilly temps. Please be sure students dress in layers for school- they need proper weather gear for outdoor play even when the inside temperature is warm. If students do not have appropriate weather/snow gear their outside activities may be somewhat limited so they stay warm and safe.
