From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
Happy Spring Break! We hope you’ve had some time this week to unwind with family and friends and make great memories.
With spring upon us, Easter isn’t far away! We’re already beginning to plan for our Easter services at Zion. If you’d like to purchase a lily to help decorate our sanctuary and worship center, order forms are available in the narthex and lobby. The cost is only $12 per lily, and you can take your lily home to share with a friend – or keep for yourself – after the service.
In worship, we continue our series called “Versus.” We all have battles we fight. Sometimes it’s a battle versus fatigue. Other times it’s a battle versus addiction. Sometimes, it’s even a battle versus God. In this series, we’re looking at some of these battles. This Sunday, we’ll talk about how when we feel weak in the battles we face and fight, God remains strong. We’ll look at a classic story from 1 Samuel 17:1-11, 45:
Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah. Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines. The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them. A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him. Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.” On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified. David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
In one of the Bible’s most famous stories, a shepherd boy named David fights a menacing giant named Goliath. David appears weak, until Goliath and his army discover that he has the power of God behind him. Where do you feel weak? God’s strength often reveals itself in unexpected ways – in you! Learn more about how to find the strength you need this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!
– Pastor Zach, Pastor Kevin & Pastor Kyle

"Gospel Adventures - Wild About Kenya'
In January, students and teachers across the United States began journeying to Kenya through Lutheran Hour Ministries' newest Gospel Adventures installment.
Our "Wild About Kenya" multimedia voyage introduces students to the people, animals, food, and culture of this vibrant African nation. Along the way, they engage in hands-on activities, learn about Gospel ministry work ... and discover that God wants to use them as His witnesses, too!
Consider Gospel Adventures as classroom curriculum or individual journeys you can take with your child or grandchild. We offer separate, age-based experiences for elementary students and middle-school tweens. Discover Kenya (and other destinations too!) at gospeladventures.org
