Thank YOU North Families!
We appreciate your help as we kick off our new school year. Our North Star Huskies are doing a wonderful job demonstrating how to be responsible, respectful and safe. Your support makes such a difference.

School Drills
The health and safety of our students and staff are our top priority. Under the Illinois School Safety Drill Act, all public schools are required to conduct a variety of safety drills annually. Drills practiced include fire, bus evacuation, severe weather/shelter-in-place, and law enforcement (lockdown/active shooter). See below for our current drill schedule:
Fire Drill
Friday, Aug. 30, 2024
Tornado Drill
Friday, Aug. 30, 2024
Lockdown Drill
Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024
Bus Evacuation
Friday, Sep 6, 2024
Preparing for various scenarios in advance helps empower staff and students in the case of a real emergency. While the chance of an incident happening is unlikely, we care about the well-being of our students and staff and are required by law to educate our school community to ensure emergency preparedness for all.
As indicated above, our school will participate in a lockdown drill on Thursday, Sept 26. We understand that some drills, particularly the law enforcement/lockdown drill, could cause anxiety for some students. Should you have questions about the lockdown drill or wish to opt your child out of the drill, please fill out and submit this form to your child’s school or contact the main office at 815.356.3451. Under state law, schools must still provide alternative safety education related to an active threat to students who do not participate in the lockdown drill.

District 47 Attendance Reporting Procedures via ParentVue
If a child will be absent from school, parents/guardians must log into ParentVue to report the absence before the start of the school day -- by 8:50 a.m. (preK and elementary) and by 7:30 a.m. (middle school). Once logged into ParentVue, click the Report Absence button to complete the quick, two-step process. If you need help logging into ParentVue or have questions, see the links below or contact the parent help desk at hd@d47.org.
Volunteering and Visiting Procedures
All volunteers are required to complete an annual online application including a background check, completed by Raptor, one week prior to your visit. Visitors must present a driver’s license or state ID upon entry. Click here for more volunteering and visiting procedures and information.

NPTO section
The NPTO is a non-profit volunteer organization of parents and educators from North Elementary who want to support staff and students at North and continue to build a wonderful place to learn, grow, have fun, and work! We do this by volunteering our time inside and outside of the school building, fundraising, appreciating, supporting, and advocating for our students and staff! Please join us here NPTO Volunteer Form
Our first meeting is September 18th in the LMC at North at 6pm. More details to come!
TAP IS LOOKING FOR HELP
TAP is a great volunteer program at North that helps complete projects for our wonderful teachers. Sharpening pencils, sorting copies, laminating, and cutting out projects are just a few examples of things we help complete. We are looking for more people to join our amazing team by volunteering a set time each week during the school day or coming into help when available. Please reach out to Julia Ferwerda at jferwerda@d47.org if interested for more information.
