Message from the Principal's Desk...
Greetings Mt. Pleasant Community!!! The students are starting to settle into their new routines and making new friends. We are preparing to practice our emergency drills. These drills are extremely important to ensure building safety, but they can make students a bit nervous and uncomfortable. Please click the picture for a Parent's Guide to Emergency Preparedness, which details emergency response actions for school. Please talk with your child about how their teacher and the rest of the school staff want to keep them and their classmates safe, which is why we hold these drills. Ask your child about other things we do in our daily lives to help keep us safe, such as wearing seat belts when riding in a car.
WHAT'S NEW?
Mrs. McIntyre - Social Emotional Learning
Mrs. McIntyre is very excited to leave her 2nd grade classroom and begin working with our students to understand how to manage their emotions and build relationships.
Ms. Coakley - Art Teacher
Ms. Coakley is looking forward to bringing wonderful new art projects to our students.
Ms. Leith - Building Based Substitute Teacher
Check out our new Car Drop Off Lane
As parking is so limited around our building, we are utilizing the car drop off lane behind the school on Abbott Street this year for the mornings only. Please note that the right hand side of Abbott St. is a Car Drop Off Lane Only. Please do not park in this lane. There will be staff members stationed behind the school starting at 8am to welcome your children. Please have your child prepared to leave the vehicle on the right hand side, so as soon as you pull up the child may easily exit the vehicle and the car lane may keep moving forward.
If you would like to walk your student up to the school, please find an appropriate place to park and avoid this lane.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Nutrition and Celebrations
School Snacks
Friendly reminder to send your children into school with a healthy snack for snack time. Our Fresh Fruit and Veggies are delivered to the school on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. We do not have healthy snacks available to students on the other days of the week. We thank you for your cooperation.
School Parties and Celebrations
Schools have an extraordinary influence on the development of lifelong eating habits and other healthy lifestyle patterns. The occasions when students can practice making healthy food choices at school serve as opportunities to reinforce the nutrition knowledge learned in the classroom. Additionally, school parties are an opportunity to put food in its proper place as a complement to the fun and not as the main event.
Non-Food Ways to Celebrate
- Donate a book to the school library or classroom in honor of the child’s birthday with a personalized gift acknowledgement inside.
- Donate playground/physical activity equipment – jump rope, balls, etc.
- Celebrate with active games chosen by the student.
- Have a dancing celebration.
- Engage students in a special art project.
Healthy Party Snacks
- Small bottles or cartons of flavored milk, 100% juice. smoothies, and/or water.
- Fresh fruit tray – whole, wedges, slices (dip in orange juice to retain color) or fruit kabobs.
- Fresh vegetable tray (baby carrots, grape tomatoes, celery sticks, cucumber spears, red and green bell pepper strips, broccoli and cauliflower florets) with reduced fat ranch or yogurt-based dip.
- String cheese, cheese cubes or slices with whole grain crackers
- Low fat pudding cups, low fat yogurt squeeze packs or cups.
- Pretzels, low fat popcorn, trail mix.
