Principal's Message:
Greetings Joe Serna families,
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
This week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! Please take time to thank our amazing teachers and staff for their hard work and commitment they provide our students on a daily basis. To celebrate our Teachers and Staff, on Friday, May 10th we will have a potluck from 11am-1:00pm in room P-16. Sending a special dish to share with them would be a great way to show your appreciation. Thank you in advance for your support and kindness.
Also, State testing will continue this week for our 3rd -8th grade students.
Check out this week's newsletter for friendly reminders and more details on events taking place.
Have a wonderful week,

🌷 Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week 🌷
May 6th - May 10th
Thank you to all our teachers and staff for their dedication, guidance, and support! Their hard work makes a difference in the lives of our students every day. Everything they do is truly appreciated!
📝 Statewide Tests 📝
3rd-8th grade will test between April 22nd-May 17th
To prepare your student for testing, here are tips on how to support your student:
1. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the test.
2. On the morning of the test, your child needs to get up in plenty of time so he/she won't feel rushed.
3. Ensure your child has a good breakfast. Research shows that children do better on tests if they have had a good breakfast.
4. Do as much as you can to make your child feel comfortable. Try not to say things to make him/her feel more nervous.
5. Reassure your child that no matter the outcome of the test you will still love him/her. Encourage them to simply do their best.

Uniform Expectations for the 2024-2025 School Year, K-8
As previously noted, there is a new update on uniform expectations for the 2024-2025 school year. Full implementation will be in place for all K-8 students to wear uniforms at the start of the new school year. Middle School teachers have been informing our current 6th and 7th grade students of this change for the upcoming school year. Wearing school uniforms supports in school unity across grade levels, promotes equality, reduces distractions and helps create a focused learning environment where students can concentrate on their learning without worrying about fashion trends. We will have a uniform sale and pick up date in July before we begin school. Details will be sent out once a date has been established.
Additional sizes will be added to the current shirts available on the website.

💻 Student Chromebooks 💻
We want to bring to your attention the importance of discussing the proper care of district-issued student Chromebooks with your children. We have observed an increase in incidents involving damage, often linked to carelessness or misuse. As we address these situations, we want to remind you of the importance of engaging in discussions with your child about the proper care of their district-issued Chromebook. Students will be held responsible for any damages, and charges may apply for repairs. Principals will conduct thorough investigations in collaboration with students to ensure fair outcomes. Additionally, please remind your students to charge their Chromebooks overnight, ensuring they are ready for the next day's learning activities. Your involvement in these discussions is crucial, and we appreciate your attention to these matters.

If your student is sick and will not be attending school, please call our office at 209-331-7809 to notify us.
