Westside Unified Circle Of Friends

Looking for something to do this summer? Escape with us to the Westside Unified Circle of Friends Summer Camp, an online virtual camp for students Pre-K through 21 focused on fun, friendship and inclusion! Session dates include June 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th and July 13th & 20th. All sessions will be online with similar age range peers over the Google Meet video conferencing platform. To keep things secure, we ask that students participating RSVP for the sessions they will participate in (link below) and that an adult be present during the student participation. Only recognized attendees will be admitted into the sessions which will typically last from 45min to 1 hour.

Joining a Google Meet is easy!

If your child is on a Mac or Windows PC, all you need to do is click on the link that the teacher sends you. Once you click on “Join Meet” you will be prompted to allow Meet access to your camera and microphone. Click allow for both.

For best performance and access to all Meet features, we recommend that you use either Safari (Mac only) or Chrome (Mac or Windows).

If you or your students are on iPad, iPhone or Android, you’ll use the Google Meet app.

Note: to use Google Meet on a mobile device, you must have a school-provided or personal Google (think Gmail) account.

Additionally, once you have the Meet app installed, it will automatically open when you click on a Google Meet link from an email.

Users with disabilities can participate in Meet video meetings using accessibility features in Meet, Chrome Browser, and Google meeting room hardware.

• Live captions—Display captions of the person speaking so that participants who are deaf or hard-of-hearing can follow what’s said in video meetings.

• Keyboard shortcuts—Users can control the camera and microphone and open accessibility features using the keyboard.

As Unified Champion Schools, we partner with Special Olympics Nebraska to implement a three-component strategy focused on Inclusive Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole-School Engagement. These three components bring students with and without intellectual disabilities together to promote a positive school climate, develop physical fitness, prevent bullying, enhance student engagement, and promote student leadership skills.

In addition, Circle of Friends is a program of the Autism Action Partnership and the University of Nebraska to bring together students with and without disabilities to learn about social challenges and develop friendships, awareness, and strategies for connecting and supporting others.
