A Note from Principal Guenther
What a great start to the year! We are so glad to have your child attend Miller Elementary. I would like to share a few highlights of things we have been focusing on this year. First, we have been working hard to make sure every student feels welcome by greeting them every day. We have also been focusing on keeping students and staff safe. To this end, we taught and practiced emergency safety drills (lockdown, tornado, and fire) and placed an adult on each bus for the first week to ensure every student got off at the correct location. In addition, I hope that you were able to view Mr. Feyβs video about our pick-up/drop-off procedures, so you know where to safely drop-off and pick-up students. Finally, we held an all-school assembly in which Mr. Fey, and I shared with students the Power of 3. We instructed students to tell three adults when something happens to them to make them feel unsafe or if they cannot resolve a conflict with a peer. The adults will intervene or investigate to make sure the problem has been addressed or the relationship has been mended. In addition, we taught students the importance of following directions and asked them to begin using this simple phrase, βOk, I can do thatβ when adults ask them to do something. Well, thatβs it for this update. More to come next time.
A Note From Our Assistant Principal Mr.Fey
Hello parents, guardians, and grandparents, my name is Dave Fey, and I am the Assistant Principal at Miller Elementary. Much of the work within a school day revolves around student behavior, supporting teachers, ensuring systems support teachers and learners, resolving student conflicts, and connecting with parents and guardians.
As we collaborate on your learnersβ educational experience, we desire to communicate to you a few of our learner expectations. Teachers repeatedly review these expectations with learners throughout the school year and intensify reviews if needed. A level of behavior and decorum, or an acceptable level of interaction between peers, is a common expectation here at Miller Elementary. One of the biggest infractions of this decorum is name-calling. Name-calling can fall under our school harassment policy. When learners call names based on something that an individual cannot change, the origin of birth, the color of their skin, or physical, emotional, or mental capabilities it is deemed as harassing. If your learner(s) comes home and reports incidents of harassment:
1.) encourage them to report to staff at the moment β reporting to three adults in our mantra,
2.) inform the classroom teacher (always encouraged as the first step)
3.) for repeated incidents inform either Mr. Guenther or Mr. Fey.
Miller Elementary strives to provide a safe, collaborative, and caring environment for all learners and adults. As we work together respectfully and responsibly manner your learner will continue to learn and mature on their journey to receiving their High School Diploma.

Recess Expectations and Clothing
Fall is here, winter isn't far behind. We will go by wind-chill for clothing expectations, not the actual temperature as the weather changes. The projected highs don't hit until very late in the day. Pants, close-toed shoes, and a sweatshirt or jacket are needed to keep our learners safe and comfortable as they play. Should we end up with snow; boots, snow pants, and gloves or mittens are required to leave the blacktop and to play in the snow. On cold or windy days, they want their warmer gear, thank you for helping them remember to bring their gear to school.π
Having fun outside,
