Wickliffe Family Update
October 27, 2024 Notes and News
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday for our annual Fall Fest! It was such a joy to come together, share in the fun, and enjoy each other’s company. A special thank you goes out to our wonderful Fall Fest Committee parents—Melanie Kerr, Beth Renner, Yoshi Narui, Kate Medwid, and JT Means—whose dedication and hard work made this fantastic event possible. It was truly a memorable evening, filled with fun for all!
We hope you also had a chance to browse the Lost and Found tables at Fall Fest. Due to limited storage space, any unclaimed items will be donated this Friday. Currently, about 90% of our Lost and Found items do not have names, making it challenging to return them to their owners. Items labeled with names will be returned directly to students, so please consider labeling your child’s belongings to help streamline this process. Details about our Lost and Found process are below.
Please note that we have adjusted the start time of our fall parade to 1:30 p.m. Families planning to join us are invited to line the curved sidewalks by the new playground, leading to the front of the building. The parade will start on the blacktop, and our entire school will walk along the curved sidewalk to the front. For safety, please refrain from gathering on the blacktop at the parade’s start.
As the forecast indicates possible rain on Thursday, we will be monitoring the weather closely. Any changes to our parade plans will be communicated by 12:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in making these events a success!
Fondly,
Angela Evans

PACK TIME
This coming week, we’re excited to begin implementing PACK TIME—a designated time (scheduled at least 1-2 times a week) when our classroom teachers and support staff focus directly on building students’ skills and supporting their individual growth. PACK TIME reflects our commitment to several of our 10 Foundational Principles, especially those that celebrate the variation in child development and collaborating together to meet each child’s needs.
During PACK TIME, no new instruction will be introduced. Instead, each child will have a PACK leader to provide focused time for reinforcing and practicing emerging skills. Students may receive the following kinds of targeted support, based on their needs:
- Students with RIMPs may be supported by their classroom teachers or Literacy Specialists
- Students with IEPs may be supported by their Intervention Specialists.
- Some students may focus on skill-building in reading or math.
- Certain students may engage in activities to strengthen social skills, connections, and self-regulation.
- Some students may also have the opportunity to work on tasks or assignments they’re working to complete.
Our entire team is united in providing differentiated, supplemental, and tiered support tailored to foster growth and confidence in each learner. Through PACK TIME, we’re creating a nurturing environment that values each child’s unique journey of learning and development. Thank you for your partnership as we continue to support every learner’s success! If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
Student Advisory Update
Wickliffe Student Advisory is about ready to get started! We are still waiting to receive student applications from all Wickliffe classrooms before selecting which students will be asked to join this year. When we have received all applications, we will reach out to classroom teachers for two student recommendations to represent each class. We are looking forward to hosting our first Student Advisory meeting before school on Wednesday, November 6th at 7:30am in the town square. Student Advisory will then be held on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at the same time. We plan to notify students and their adults if they have been chosen on November 1st. We can't wait to review all of the amazing applications and get started with Student Advisory projects this school year!
Harvest Party Food Drive
In celebration of autumn, the harvest season, and Halloween, Wickliffe students will participate in our annual parade, which class parties will follow. To share our harvest, we ask each child to bring a can of soup to donate. All donations will benefit Heart to Heart, a local food pantry.
Donations can be deposited in the donation boxes at the building's entrance and will also be accepted during our costume parade on Thursday, October 31st.
While the pantry has specifically requested soup this month, all non-perishable items, including diapers, toothbrushes, toilet paper, and toiletries, are welcome. If you have any questions or would prefer to make a monetary donation, please contact Sarah Oberlin at soberlin@uaschools.org or Amy Miller at ajmiller@uaschools.org. Thanks in advance for your generosity.
Lost and Found Donation Day Approaching
To help ensure items are returned to your child, please label their belongings with their name. Items with names inside will be returned directly to students; however, 90% of our lost and found items currently do not have names, making it challenging to identify their owners.
A great option for labeling is Mabel's Labels! Their website is easy to use, prices are reasonable, and the labels stick well to clothing. Plus, every purchase supports our PTO—it's a win-win!
If your child is missing anything, please encourage them to check the lost and found. Thank you for helping us keep track of everyone’s belongings!
Due to limited storage space, unclaimed Lost and Found items will be donated on the last Friday of each month. Volunteers have organized the items on tables/racks in the office hallway allowing parents and students to easily check for missing belongings. Anything on the tables/rack will be donated on November 1.
Please note: any items lost during the week of October 28 - November 1 will not be included in the donation. If you would like to volunteer to assist with organizing the closet periodically and transfer items from the closet to tables the week before donation, please contact the PTO.
Veterans Day Celebration
We want to honor veterans on Veterans Day (Monday, November 11). Is there a veteran in your family or do you know of someone who has served or is serving in the military? Please complete this survey with your veteran's information so we can honor them at our town meeting.
Veterans, their student and their families are invited to breakfast and coffee provided by our PTO between 7:30 and 8:30am. Students head to their classrooms at 8:10 then we ask our veterans to join in our school town meeting at 8:30 in seats of honor.
If you have more than one veteran, please fill out the survey for each veteran and note if they will be able to attend.
Parking and Drop-Off Reminder
Please use the carline on Eastcleft Road for student drop-off and pick-up. The front lot is reserved for families with handicapped children or those arriving late.
As a reminder, our parking lots are reserved for staff, but we have 3 visitor spots by the front entrance and the bus lane is available from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. If those spots are full, additional parking is available on Cimmaron Road and Wickliffe Road.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

District Updates
Facilities Master Planning Phase Two Community Kickoff
Nearly 10 years ago, the Upper Arlington community began working together to plan for the future of our schools, leading to a new high school and all new or renovated elementary schools. Now, it’s time to come together again — to determine the best path forward for the aging middle schools and Burbank Early Childhood School. Join us for the community kickoff to phase two of facilities master planning:
Tuesday, October 29 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Jones Middle School, 2100 Arlington Avenue
Wednesday, October 30 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Graf Center, 2020 Builders Place
Strategic plan update town hall meeting
Learn more about the strategic planning process by joining district leadership for a town hall meeting on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Upper Arlington High School. Attendees will hear a review of the research and work done to date and then break into smaller groups to learn about the steps planned to implement each strategy during the next five years.
