Cole Miners' Dig
March 1, 2024
Principal's Notes
Many thanks to the PTO for sponsoring a visit from Sheryl Faye who acted as Queen Elizabeth on Monday morning for all K-5 classes. We learned so much about the Queen and got to practice the Windsor Wave. Grade 2 students also participated in the PTO sponsored enrichment program from High Touch High Tech called Smarty Plants where they learned about the photosynthesis and germination. Thank you to the PTO for bringing these exciting enrichment opportunities to Cole School!
Meet with the Literacy, Reading, and Math Coordinators to get some tips and ideas to support your child's reading, writing, and math development at home at the upcoming PTO Meeting on March 6th at 9am in the Cole School cafeteria.
This week's Magnificent Meerkats include 28 students that shine brightly and consistently show kind and helpful behaviors. Many of them were nominated because they are role models for others in the classrooms and at Cole School. We are super proud of these students! Way to go, Meerkats!

Specialists' Scoop
This week we began a Paddle Striking Unit for all grades! Kindergarten through 2nd grade were using different implements (pool noodles, frisbees, lollipop paddles and bowling pins) to strike a balloon with control. Grades 3-5 were provided with a series of challenges using plastic paddles to strike a small ball while practicing their forehand, backhand and rallying skills.

Welcome back from break everyone!
The 2024 Variety Show planning is underway!
Hopefully everyone received the sign-up form and permission slip by now, but if not, they are attached below.
Vmaecarney@yahoo.com
A few parents have asked about the March 6th deadline for sign-up forms because many were away last week and although kids have been communicating over text, it can be nice to do some planning in person!
If anybody needs additional time, please don’t hesitate to reach out and just let us know that your form is on the way!
We do need to get a sense of how many students will be participating, ages, grades, music choices, etc asap, hence the March 6th deadline! But please feel free to send them in early this week if you’re done!!
The first formal rehearsal will not be until April 1st, so they will have plenty of time to work on their acts!!
Looking forward to seeing Cole School Shine on Stage May 9th!!!
