Message from Ms. Chun
Happy New School Year, Balboa Families! And a very special and warm welcome to our new families. I hope the start of the school year has been nothing but amazing for your scholar.
I am excited for what’s entailed for every scholar this year. At Balboa Magnet, we are committed to providing an exceptional education with pathways to explore beyond textbooks. We believe in teaching to the whole child and providing opportunities that cultivate every scholar’s gifts and talents in order to pursue their passion.
We encourage all families to get involved, whether it’s in the classrooms, Teacher Assistant Program (TAP), BSC event, fundraising committees, or just attending a school-wide event. Please make sure you complete a volunteer application ASAP if you have not done so already as it can take some time to process and be approved. For more information, please reach out to our wonderful Parent Community Representative, Mrs. Lisa Henderson at lisa.henderson@lausd.net.
On behalf of the teachers and staff, I thank you for your generous donation which allows the school to offer an accelerated academic program to prepare our scholars as 21st century learners. Your generous Compass Fund donation allows us to offer a vocal music instructor, STEAM lab instructor, YMCA physical education coach, master gardener, and more!
I look forward to working together as a community to ensure the best learning environment for every scholar. Here’s to an excellent school year ahead!

38% to Compass Fund Goal Reached!
The race to be the first class to reach 100% participation is still on, will there be a class that comes from behind to earn the class party or will one of the classes in the lead pull ahead to win?
Don't forget, every class that has 100% participation will get restaurant coupons, and every class that reaches 80% participation earns a popsicle party!
We are about 38% of the way towards our goal of collecting $200,000 in order to pay for the amazing enrichment opportunities every Balboa scholar benefits from! CLICK HERE

Volunteer Opportunities
Psychomotor Signups
This year we are trying something new with psychomotor. We want to ensure all our scholars get to participate in this program, however, unless each class has LAUSD-approved volunteers, it may be that some classes do not get the opportunity. As such, we invite you to volunteer for not only your child’s class, but consider helping out in another class on another day. Your support is greatly appreciated and our scholars will be eternally grateful to not miss out on this important skill-building, and fun, opportunity. Thank you!
SIGN UP HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4DA9AE23A3FDC07-50894691-psychomotor#/
Please note: You must be a district approved, on-campus volunteer to assist during Psychomotor. Please do not signup yet if you have not received confirmation that you have been approved to volunteer.
The application to become an approved LAUSD volunteer for next academic year is open. You will need to be approved by the district to help out on campus during school hours. To learn more and to apply, please visit the LAUSD Volunteer Portal. You need to re-apply for each school year.
