Where Learning is Personal
Thursday, February 6, 2025
From the Principal
With so many in our community falling ill recently, it's a good reminder of how important it is to prioritize healthy habits to keep everyone feeling their best. Remember how crucial adequate rest, a balanced diet, and staying hydrated are, as they also significantly support strong immune systems.
As we navigate this season of illnesses, it's crucial to balance prioritizing health and maintaining consistent school attendance. If your student is unwell, we encourage you to keep them home to rest and recover so they can return to school healthy and ready to learn. However, if they're feeling unmotivated or tired of going to school, it's essential to reinforce the value of being present. Each day at school is an opportunity to grow academically, socially, and personally, and maintaining regular attendance helps students stay on track and build resilience.
Shifting our attention to our student's hard work. Our Science Olympiad and Speech teams proudly represented our school this past weekend, showcasing their hard work, talent, and dedication. Whether through creative problem-solving, teamwork, or eloquent presentations, these students demonstrated excellence in their respective fields and made us all proud. A big thank you to the coaches and families who supported them along the way—your encouragement and guidance played a key role in their success.
These accomplishments remind us of our students' incredible potential when challenged, supported, and given the opportunity to shine. Let's celebrate their achievements and continue inspiring all our students to aim high, work hard, and pursue their passions! Together, we're building a school community where everyone's efforts and talents are valued.
Congratulations to all who participated—you are truly making a difference and setting an example of excellence for our school!

RMHC Pop Tab Recycling Program
We’re excited to invite all families to contribute to our pop tab collection drive! Each grade level will be receiving a collection can soon. The grade level with the most tabs by weight at the end of the year will receive a small prize for their efforts! By sending in pop tabs from your canned drinks, you’re helping us support the Ronald McDonald House, which provides comfort and care for sick children and their families. These tabs can be recycled and, when we collect enough, will be exchanged for funds to benefit these families in need. Plus, if our school collects enough tabs, we’ll be invited to join the prestigious "Thanks a Million" club at Ronald McDonald House! Your contributions make a big difference – thank you for your support! For more information about the program, check out the website here: https://rmhccni.org/get-involved/pop-tabs/

Primary Team News
Our primary kids had fun celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday with a variety of engaging learning activities! The first graders celebrated 101st day on Thursday!
Intermediate Team Ideas
In math, third graders wrapped up a chapter on multiplication fact fluency. To review multiplication, students worked together to solve word problems using a variety of strategies. In social studies, they continued to add to their understanding of economics, this week focusing on supply and demand. This week in 3/4 Brach, students began reading a new novel: The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies. Students are already working on learning new vocabulary, finding figurative language, gathering evidence about character traits, and making inferences as they read. They have also studied the Greek and Latin Roots flect and flex which mean to bend. The students have also begun to learn how to analyze and enjoy poetry, learning about lines, stanzas, rhyme scheme, repetition, and rhythm. They have also used evidence from the poem to come up with a theme. Finally, Mr. Brach has the students reading articles and taking notes to help them answer the debate question-Do you prefer to read fiction or non-fiction and why? Students will use these notes to write a 5 paragraph essay explaining which genre they prefer and why. In 5th grade, students began a new unit in math where they will dive into adding and subtracting fractions. In science, students focused on the geosphere and thought about why tectonic plates shift in the crust is a solid layer.
Middle School Messages
American Legion US Constitution Speech Contest
American Legion US Constitution speech contest - Great job to our seven 8th graders that participated this past Sunday at Cantigny (along with a few students from a few other nearby schools). Well researched topics, well developed main points, and great energy helped our some of our Winfield contestants achieve second and fourth places. There is also a high school division, so hopefully some of our 8th graders continue this experience for the next few years.
