H5N1 in dairy cattle and other species?
As you know, the H5N1 virus in dairy cattle in Minnesota is spreading. As a safety precaution, all 4H families that are planning to exhibit lactating dairy cattle have to test negative for the virus, and have proof before they can come to the county fair. The test must also be taken seven days prior to show day. But now, new information shows that other species could contract the virus? For more information,
New member fair orientation
We welcome any new members who have never attended a fair or have only been to one or two fairs. We will meet at the 4-H building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. You will get a tour of the fairgrounds and learn what you need to do on general entry day and for animal shows. We will also have a demonstration of conference judging with our ambassadors, where parents and 4-Hers can see how conference judging happens. If you would like to give it a try, bring a project exhibit with you.
We will be hosting this event on July 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
Minimum of 5 participants to hold event.

The livestock PDC will meet on July 11, at 7 p.m. at the Extension Office. We will be reviewing and finalizing the needs for county fair.
