Happy Summer Wildcats!

Well that's a wrap on 2024! I am so grateful for all your support, ideas, and encouragement as I navigated my first full year as your elementary your elementary school principal. It has been a fantastic year and a joy watching your students try new things, build friendships, and grow into the amazing people that they are.


At our awards assembly, I reminded students that while we can teach them a lot, they are in charge of their character, and I hope they continue to demonstrate our ROAR values of respect, organization, achievement, responsibility, and safety all throughout their summer break. I asked them to keep reading and creating, to get outside a lot, and be helpful to you all at home.


You are raising some pretty great kids! Thank you for sharing them with us!

Meet Roary

You're likely aware that our mascot is the wildcat. You may even know that we recently named our elementary wildcat Roary, but did you know who's behind the mask? Each year we will pick a 5th grade student to be Roary and help pump up our students and staff for a great week at our monthly ROAR Rallies, where we celebrate students for upholding our ROAR values and making our school a great place to be.

3rd Grade Wax Museum

Take a step back in time with this awesome 3rd grade tradition. Students used their skills explore the lives of those who have greatly impacted ours. They researched a historic figure and used their creativity and a little acting to bring their person's passions and accomplishments to life. We loved having so many families join to view our Wax Museum.

Wildcat Fun Day

Wildcat Fun Day never disappoints and if we could order the same weather for next year, that would be great! Thank you to all the staff and parent volunteers who helped bring Mrs. Smith's vision to our students. They enjoyed a day filled with competition, teamwork, and a lot of laughs! They may have come home a little wet from our new bucket dump game, but they made memories to last a lifetime.

GWDES Happenings & Events to Look Forward to:

  • Every Tuesday over Summer Break- 11:00-11:30 Summer Recess (Mrs. Comp will be outside most Tuesdays, weather permitting. You are always welcome on our playground when school in not is session, but having a set playdate is a great way to ensure some friends will be there to play!)
  • Class Assignments for the 2024/2025 School Year will be shared in July
  • August 15: Kindergarten Meet & Greet
  • August 21: 1st Day of School for Students
  • September 5: Back to School Night (Grades 1-5)

Volunteer Clearances

We love having you come volunteer at our school! Our goal is to get as many parents/ guardians to get their volunteer clearances as possible so you can help out in classrooms, attend field trips, and get more involved in school events. Once you get them they are good for five years and they are completely FREE! Here's the link from the District Website to get you started. Once you have they please turn them into the Elementary Office.

Newport Public Library

Our friends at the Newport Public Library want you to know that you are always welcome! There is not public library in the in our immediate community so NPL is the public library that serves the entire Greenwood population. Greenwood families can get a library card free of charge and can use it at NPL for checking out books and movies as well as to access online resources provided by the state (ACCESS PA and the POWER Library). This is great for homework help, research, or just plain enjoyment.
