Principal's Message
Dear OMS Community,
We have been finding ways to address chronic absenteeism this school year. Chronic absences are when students miss 10% or more of school days due to absences for any reason. When students are absent from school (even if it is an excused absence), they miss out on important learning opportunities. Attending school everyday sets positive habits that help prepare students for high school as attendance in high school is counted towards earning credits for a class.
To help incentivize students to come to school everyday, we will begin recognizing students for Perfect Attendance each month, beginning this month. I announced to students this morning our March Perfect Attendance incentive. If students have perfect attendance for the month, they will get a positive principal's email/phone call home, a positive recognition card that they can turn in for a prize on Ticket Tuesday, and a positive shout-out to the school on the morning announcements. Every student has the chance to earn perfect attendance recognition for March!
You can read more about chronic absenteeism and the impact it has on students' education here.
Best,
Mrs. Katrina Crowley

Project 351
Project 351 Nominees and our Project 351 Ambassador were recognized at this week's School Committee meeting. Each year at OMS, faculty silently nominate deserving 8th graders for consideration as the Project 351 Ambassador from OMS and the Town of Stoughton. Faculty were asked to nominate students based on the Project 351 selection criteria of recognizing quiet and unsung heroes who demonstrate a strong ethic of service, respect others, have a strong potential to lead and learn, and exemplify characteristics of kindness, compassion, humility, and gratitude.
The 2024 Project 351 Ambassador for Stoughton is Tana Bernard. Project 351 nominees include: Brennan Cox, Valentina de Carvalho, Eden Gonsalves, Jackson Gosule, and Victor Pereira. All six of these students were recognized for their hard work, character, and commitment to
service. They were each presented with a certificate and water bottle.
During the School Committee meeting, Tana shared about her experience at Launch Day which was the kickoff event for her year of service. At Launch Day, Tana joined the other Project 351 ambassadors from across the state to learn from state leaders and learn more about what they could do for their communities.
