The Crocker Chronicles is a monthly e-newsletter for parents and guardians of students at Crocker Elementary School. Our goal is to keep you informed of the news and information you need in order to be involved and engaged in your student's education.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR CROCKER CRUISER RUNNERS

As we begin to wrap up the 2023/2024 school year, I want to thank you for allowing me to partner with your family to keep your children healthy and safe! As we close out the school year, if your child has medicines at school, please be on the lookout for an email from me in the coming weeks about how you would like those medications returned home.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. As the weather gets warmer and we begin to spend more of our time outside, please talk to your children about ways to protect their skin and lower their risk of skin cancer. In addition to sunscreen, please continue to reinforce safety with your students regarding hot weather, bike and traffic safety, insects and water safety! The National Safety Council has a lot of great advice you can read here: Summer Safety Tips. Blank Children’s hospital has a lot of great local resources you can find here: Center for Advocacy and Outreach. Blank also has a store with safety gear at a discounted rate, and a fantastic staff that will answer safety questions and help find a proper fitting helmet. Have a safe and healthy summer!

Our 5th grade students will be participating in the all day school district track meet at Northview Stadium on Thursday, May 8th. The students will participate in running events in the morning, have lunch in the bleachers, and then finish with the field events in the afternoon.

Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the day, as weather can be unpredictable in May. In addition, please have your child wear tennis shoes on this day (no track spikes allowed for this meet).

There is no charge for admission to this meet, if you are able to attend. Events will kick off around 9AM and usually complete about 2PM.

We ask that you do not bring fast food to the track meet for your student's lunch, either a sack lunch from home or the school.

Registration for the 2024/25 Before & After School Program opened to current B/ASP families + incoming siblings on April 10th, 2024, and to new B/ASP students, including incoming Kindergarteners, on April 17th, 2024.

Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is open!

Crocker families: please remember to complete your annual update for the 2024-2025 school year. All existing families are required to complete the annual update for each student in their household using the Infinite Campus portal. This is also where existing families can add a child who is new to the district, such as an incoming preschool or kindergarten student. Visit our website to complete your update today.

The registration process is best completed on a laptop or desktop computer; using a mobile device will not allow for registration to be completed. If you have questions, please contact the district registrar by email, or by phone, (515) 289-8955.

Unforeseen accidents in the classroom, lunch room and playground can result in wet or soiled clothing. Please make sure your student(s) has the following back-up items in a grocery sack or large ziploc that can be kept in their locker for those unforeseen accidents.

Appropriate back-up clothing suggestions:

• Shirt
• Long pants
• Underwear
• Sock
• PE shoes

Please contact the school if your child will be absent from school, arriving late or leaving early. Crocker's telephone number is 515-965-9710. Another option is to send an email to cr.office@ankenyschools.org along with your student's teacher. We do have to have the reason why a student is not in school. If the school is not notified of an absence, the office will attempt to contact the Parents/Guardians at their primary number listed on Infinite Campus.

While it is encouraged for students to have appointments outside of school hours we understand that at times this is not always possible. When you know your student has an appointment and will need to be picked up from school during the day please call the Crocker Office to let them know you are coming. When you come to the school, ring the Aiphone doorbell and state who you are here to pick up. We will ask for you to remain outside to wait for your student.

If your student forgets to bring something needed that day for class, we ask that you ring the Aiphone doorbell and we will ask for you to put the items on the table just inside the door. Please label item with the student's name and teacher.

Please remember that delivery's of flowers, candy, balloons, or presents are not accepted for students as stated in the parent handbook and will be sent back with the delivery driver.

Please remember to send a water bottle with your child everyday! This promotes hydration throughout the day and fewer classroom disruptions by cutting down on the student need to leave class and visit the drinking fountain.

The Ankeny Elementary Physical Education Department recommends that students keep an extra pair of tennis shoes at school to use. This promotes better safety and full participation in all physical education activities.

The information distributed in the Virtual Backpack (vBackpack) is provided as a community service to inform members of the community of available activities or services. The majority of information included in the vBackpack is from community organizations. Community groups can submit their information within certain guidelines, governed by Board Policy #1004.25.
