May 5th, 2024
Happy Cinco de mayo! Today's scoop is a compilation of some events we've had at Forestdale this past month, including the solar eclipse, Arbor Day presentation, Scholastic Book Fair and April REACH assembly. I hope you enjoy seeing these bright, happy faces enjoying all the fun things April had to offer us at Forestdale.

Solar Eclipse
Forestdale students celebrated the Solar Eclipse the week prior to the event. Students read Scholastic News magazines, created amazing art pieces, and researched and learned about this historic event. We were so very lucky to have eclipse glasses for ALL students and staff donated by our fabulous PTA. Because all students were safely prepared, we were able to experience the eclipse altogether as a school on the fields behind Forestdale. Many thanks again to the PTA for supplying us with the much needed safety glasses.
Friday, April 26th was Arbor Day, an American agricultural holiday, often celebrated by planting trees. Forestdale and SEL students were so lucky to have a presentation by Kevin McCarthy, owner of Triple Crown Tree and parent to two preschool students here. The presentation included hearing about tree health and sharing what to do with trees when they are cut down. The presentation concluded with some demos of trucks used to take care of trees. After the presentation, students could get close up with the trucks and asked any questions about the large vehicles that were parked in the bus loop. It was a beautiful day to be outside, and all who participated were thrilled with the event. Many thanks to Kevin McCarthy and his family for putting together this presentation as well as donating gifts for each student at Forestdale. Students showed their appreciation by writing and sharing thank you cards.
Our readers were thrilled to visit the book fair last week. These photos show how much the students (and staff) enjoyed the shopping and reading! Many thanks to the PTA for providing this program, and donating funds to ensure all students that visited the fair were able to take home a new book of choice.
This month's REACH topic was about friendship, making friends and being a good friend. Congratulations to all the students who were recognized for displaying respect, kindness and friendship to others here at Forestdale.
Here are some students "caught" reading around Forestdale. It is so heartwarming seeing all our students engaged with books - every day! These photos appear staged, but are truly snapped "in the moment". What a great way to show how much our Forestdale students love reading.
