Our theme for this year is "Learn and Lead Like Champions". We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and extraordinary hospitality. As we strive for excellence, we welcome suggestions to improve and enhance everyone's overall experience at McKelvey Intermediate.

The mission of McKelvey Intermediate is simple: to ensure that each student's educational experience, while in a clean and safe learning environment, propels them to become critical and practical thinkers and reflective learners. In addition, the mental health of our school community is of the utmost importance. Students, faculty and staff all have access to mental health counselors, school counselors and additional district mental health resources.

Attendance at school is the initial step in achieving academic success. Education is a total process based on continual communication and shared responsibilities among parents, students, teachers, and the school. Unless your child is sick, they need to be at school every day and they need to be here on time.

We miss them when they are not here, and they miss out on valuable learning opportunities that are building blocks to future success.

In this space each week, we will be tracking our attendance progress with the goal of surpassing last year’s attendance achievement of 95.2%. With all of us working together, we can do it!

The McKelvey Chess Club is for individuals who like playing or would like to learn the game of Chess. We will be working on the basics of the game, as well as higher level strategies for competitive playing. From basic movement of the pieces to the use of gambit and endgame techniques, individuals of all skill levels will be able to enjoy this lesson.

McKelvey PTO is excited to support both McKelvey Primary and McKelvey Intermediate in various ways throughout the school year.

To be able to do this, we offer a “no-hassle” fundraiser. Instead of asking families to buy or sell items throughout the year, we ask each family to make a one-time monetary donation to support all the PTO activities. This way, 100% of your money goes to the PTO and our efforts to support our schools, teachers and most importantly our students. The campaign begins now and will run until Saturday, August 31st.

PTO is able to support our schools by providing:

• Items for field day and other school wide events
• Campus improvements and beautification projects
• Staff and teacher appreciation programs

I Hope everyone is having a healthy and safe start to the new school year. I wanted to let you all know of upcoming clinics coming to McKelvey this fall.

• October 4th - Flu clinic for students. The Visiting Nurse Association will be at our school to give flu shots to students whose parents have requested they receive them at school. Information and permission forms will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

• October 21st - Dental Safari A clinic will be set up at McKelvey for students who may need access to dental care. This will be for students with dental insurance as well as those who do not have dental insurance. More information will be sent out in a few week along with permission forms

The success of our students would not be possible without the involvement and support of parents and the community. We love to connect with families in as many ways possible throughout the school year. Get a head start on approval for field trips, working in the library, or assisting with classroom projects by completing Parkway's required steps for volunteering at school. We look forward to seeing you in our school this coming year!

Each July, Parkway resets all of our volunteer accounts to renewal required. While your fingerprint results are good for up to six years as long as you stay active as a volunteer from year to year, there are still a few steps that you need to complete as a returning volunteer.

As a parent/guardian of a McKelvey Dragon, you are automatically a member. Please get involved as much as you are able. There are many ways, big and small, to connect and contribute to our school community. PTO's general meetings are led by our PTO Board, a small group of elected parents and teacher representatives.
