Family Engagement Team Meeting Tomorrow!
No School October 4-11
Remember that this Friday, October 4, is grading day, and there is no school that day. Also, we are off all of next week for Fall Break. We'll see you again on Monday, October 14!
Reminder: 2nd Grade Singing Tomorrow
Our 2nd graders will be singing at our monthly Schoolwide Community Meeting tomorrow (Wednesday, October 2) at 8:45am. Families are welcome to attend!
Student Drop-Off/Arrival
The earliest that you may drop off your child each morning is 7:45 a.m. since we do not have the adult staffing to supervise children earlier. If you drive children to and from Drachman, we expect drivers of automobiles to drive safely throughout our parking lot and to park within appropriate parking spaces. The only location where parents/guardians should drop off students in the morning, without parking and walking with them into campus, is off of Meyer Avenue at our Student Drop-Off Bay outside of the southeastern area of our playground. It is important to note that Meyer Avenue is a one-way street that only has traffic driving in the south direction. We only want students to enter the school through the front entrance if they walk to school or if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian, and WE DO NOT WANT children dropped off in our parking lot by themselves. Please note that the parking spaces closest to our main building are designed for TUSD Staff only. Also, an additional parking lot is located on the west side of 10th Ave and it is less congested and easier to enter and exit. We have amazing TUSD Crossing Guards stationed on 10th Avenue to help individuals cross the street.
Student Dismissal
Please help maximize the safety of Drachman during dismissal by ensuring that your child is fully aware of how he/she will be dismissed. Also, please provide advance notice if there will be a change in dismissal for your child. Students of all grades that ride the busses or get picked up by daycares and students from our self-contained programs of children with Autism will dismiss from the gates off Meyer Avenue. Students who attend the Santa Rosa KIDCO will be walked to the Santa Rosa Center by Drachman Staff. Kindergarten students that get picked up by parents will dismiss through our front gates. Grades 1st – 8th will dismiss through our soccer gates by our parking lot. Parents/guardians will wait for their children outside of these gates and not enter the campus to pick up their child(ren).
Volunteering at Drachman
We appreciate all our family and community volunteers! As a reminder, to increase safety for our community, TUSD requires anyone who wants to volunteer for field trips or in the classrooms to first submit an application to be a volunteer through TUSD's website. If you need assistance, please email Ms. Laura Medina, who is our office manager, or stop by the front office. Thank you!
End-of-Quarter Benchmarks
End-of-Quarter Benchmark testing is already underway for our 2nd through 8th grade students. By the end of Tuesday, all classes will have taken their English Language Arts benchmarks, and most classes will be taking their math benchmark on Wednesday. Makeup testing is scheduled for Thursday. Please make an effort to have your students at school on time and well-rested, encourage them to eat a good breakfast on testing days, and if possible, schedule appointments outside of these times.
Drachman Shirts and Merchandise for Sale!
We are offering Drachman shirts for sale at our cost for a limited time. Youth sizes (XS-XL) are $7 and adult sizes (S-3XL) are $10. All shirts must be pre-ordered and pre-paid by Friday, October 25. Please note that all shirts must be paid in cash only. You can pre-order through our online shirt order form, then turn in the cash to Wendy Gordon Weeks, Magnet Coordinator. Please email Ms. Weeks with any questions.
If you are interested in other designs or other items such as shorts, long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, hats, bottles, bags, and more, the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) has set up a print-on-demand online store! This store will be available throughout the year, and PTG will receive a portion of whatever you spend to support our school.
Soccer Shots Q2 Enrollment Open
Soccer Shots will be starting a new session second quarter. This opportunity takes place on campus on Thursdays from October 17 to December 12, from 3:00 to 3:40pm. The fee is $20 per week for 8 weeks, with an annual enrollment fee of $25. You can enroll on the Soccer Shots website.
Reminder: Trunk or Treat -- Save the Date and Request
Our 4th Annual Trunk or Treat will take place on Friday, October 25 in our parking lot. To make this a successful event, we are requesting donations of candy. Candy should be snack size or minis and must be pre-packaged and store-bought. Candy can be dropped off in the office. (Please state it is for Student Council.) Details are on this Trunk or Treat flyer.
We hope you will save the date and join us to enjoy the decorated vehicles, show off your nonviolent costumes, and “trunk or treat” for candy from the participants!
If you would like to participate by decorating your vehicle, please fill out our Trunk or Treat participation form by Monday, October 21!
Reminder: Free Tickets for U of A Volleyball Game!
The University of Arizona Athletics Department is offering free admission to Tucson Unified School District students for the U of A Volleyball game versus Utah at McKale Center on Friday, October 4th 12:00 PM. (This falls on grading day, when there is no school for students!)
Two (2) complimentary tickets will be provided to each Tucson Unified School District student. Additional tickets are available for purchase for $5. Claim your tickets at this link, and access more information regarding parking at this link.
if you have any questions regarding the event, please email Carson Luttenegger, Director of Marketing at Arizona Athletics.
Bear Down!
Reminder: Photo & Yearbook Permissions
Families who opted out of some permissions at registration should have received a yellow permission slip asking about permission for listing your student's name for Dragon of the Month, including pictures with them on our social media and website, and including their name and picture in the yearbook. If you have any questions about this form, please email Wendy Weeks, Magnet Coordinator.
We appreciate you returning these forms as soon as possible!
Reminder: Yearbooks on Sale!
Yearbooks for this school year are currently on sale for $10 each. The price will go up as the deadline gets closer, so order now to get yours at this discounted early bird price! You can purchase a yearbook on the TUSD Payment Portal, with your student’s ID number as the user name (this can be found on ParentVue), and the student’s last name as the password. Please note that yearbooks must be pre-ordered. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Amanda Laub, who is coordinating the yearbook.
