7th Grade Students Put Learning into Practice

The seventh-grade math students in Ms. Mancini's class recently completed their Percents Unit. To culminate the unit, they engaged in a project that delved into discounts, sales tax, budgeting, and tipping. Through classroom activities, students simulated shopping experiences, hunted for discounts on various items, utilized grocery store ads and coupons to create a grocery list within a $50 budget, examined takeout menus to select orders, and practiced filling out receipts with calculations for sales tax and tips for servers. These hands-on learning opportunities provided students with “real world” experience.

Thumb Piano Treasures: Exploring Musical Notation with Kalimba Melodies

Students in 4th – 6th grade music classes are learning to read standard musical notation using an instrument called the kalimba. A kalimba is a thumb piano which is played by pressing and quickly releasing (“flicking”) the keys. The kalimba is an instrument that is based on an African instrument called the mbira, which is a handmade instrument, which originated in Zimbabwe.

Exploring Utopia: The Creative Endeavors of Ms. Schuyler's 10th Grade English Class

Students in Ms. Schuyler's 10th grade English classes spent the last month of the 2nd marking period working on a large project where they had to create their own utopian society. A utopia is defined as "a place of ideal perfection, especially in laws, government, and social conditions," and the 10th grade students chose to work independently, in pairs, or in small groups to design an ideal world of their own creation. Students completed the project in 3 parts: completing a written portion, creating a brochure, and designing a map to represent their utopian society. The students put a lot of hard work and effort into this project and the results were creative, unique, and very impressive!

Elementary Hosts Game Night

Last Thursday, February 8th, elementary students and their families joined staff for game night. The evening began with a delicious spaghetti dinner before transitioning into a lively session of board games. Teachers, students, and parents enjoyed playing a variety of games, including Jenga, Twister, Corn Hole, Connect 4, Yeti Spaghetti, Don’t Break the Ice, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and more.
