Mastery Connect for Parents
An online teacher tool and student assessment platform
What is Mastery Connect?
Mastery Connect is an online teacher tool and student assessment platform. The platform allows teachers to create and deliver assessments, track student progress, and identify areas where students may need additional help.
Key Features:
Standards-Based Assessments: These are assessments directly aligned with state standards, which means they are designed to measure your child's understanding of the specific skills and knowledge expected at their grade level.
Real-time Data: Teachers can see immediate results from assessments, helping them to quickly identify which students have mastered the material and who may need more support.
Student Progress Tracking: Teachers can track each student's progress over time, ensuring they are meeting educational milestones.
Targeted Support: Based on assessment results, teachers can provide targeted instruction to help students improve in specific areas.
How Does Mastery Connect Benefit Your Child?
Personalized Learning: Teachers can tailor instruction to meet your child's specific needs based on their performance on assessments.
Clear Understanding of Progress: You and your child will have a clearer understanding of their strengths and areas where they may need to focus more attention.
Encouragement of Growth: Mastery Connect helps foster a growth mindset by showing that learning is a continuous process, and it's okay to need extra help in certain areas.
How Can You Support Your Child?
What can I do at home?
Stay Informed: Keep track of your child's progress through communications from their teacher.
Encourage Open Communication: Talk with your child about their assessments. Encourage them to share what they find challenging and celebrate their successes.
Provide Support at Home: If your child is struggling with a particular standard, consider working on related activities at home or reaching out to their teacher for additional resources.
Promote a Growth Mindset: Remind your child that learning is a journey, and it's okay not to understand something immediately. Encourage persistence and a positive attitude towards learning.
How often will my child take assessments, and how will they be graded?
Kershaw County School District (KCSD) uses Mastery Connect for common assessments across the district. Your child (ren) will take two assessments a quarter. For elementary and middle schools, the first and second quarter (semester 1) assessments will be practice assessments, and they will not affect classroom grades. For high schools, the 1st and 3rd quarter assessments will be practice assessments, and they will not affect grades. All students will receive reteaching on unmastered standards after each assessment.
Elementary Schools (Semester 2): Students can earn half-credit back for each question missed to receive a final score of up to 80%.
Middle Schools (Semester 2): After reteaching, students can show mastery to earn up to 80%.
High Schools (Quarters 2 & 4): After reteaching, students who scored less than 70% can show mastery on a comparable assessment in Mastery Connect for up to 70%.
What should I do if my child is struggling with certain standards?
Reach out to your child's teacher. They can provide additional resources or suggest activities that can help reinforce those areas at home.
