Week of September 2nd
Message from Jennifer
We held our first Flag Ceremony of the year last Friday and it was fantastic! Max Bruckart, Kiyo Cadwell, and Mia Frankel were fabulous hosts. They highlighted our Habit of the Month, Be Proactive, and made sure we were all in the know about our upcoming events. They also helped us wish a fond farewell to Karen Deltete, who has led our library program for many years. We will miss her dearly. Makena Chaconas, was outstanding leading our Color Guard and Pledge of Allegiance, and Declan Felgenhauer, Jett Cruz, Olivia Onorato, Sara Swap, and William McCullagh did a stellar job presenting the colors. We love having our 4th graders lead this monthly assembly!
THIS WEEK IS: B WEEK
Leader in Me
For the month of September we are focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive. Being Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. This means not blaming others when things go wrong. Proactive people recognize that they are responsible. They know they choose their behavior. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by their environment. For example, if the weather is good, they feel good. If it isn't, it affects their mood, and they blame the weather. One of the most important things you choose is what you say. A proactive person uses proactive language such as I can, I will, I prefer. A reactive person uses reactive language such as I can't, I have to, if only. Reactive people believe they are not responsible for what they say and do.
Temporary Lunch Menu
Temporary Lunch Menu
Our cafeteria is currently running with only one staff member, and therefore running a temporary lunch menu. Food Services has assured me that we will be up and running with our regular menu soon, but until then, please use the menu linked below.
Looking for School Site Council and Site Governance Committee Members
We are looking for parents interested in serving on our SSC and SGT Committees. These committees provide feedback regarding budgets, academics, and other programs at Sunset View. Meeting are typically 30 minutes to an hour and meet once per month online. Please submit your parent nominations by completing this Google Form by Friday, September 6th. We will contact the nominees to confirm their acceptance, ask for a short bio, and circulate the ballot.
Friendly Reminders
Please bring in a Picture for Our Community Bulletin Board!
Please bring in a picture of your family to add to our community bulletin board! Pictures can be sent to your child's classroom teacher and we will take care of the rest.
Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2000 by 9:30 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email sunselm@sandi.net.
Any child arriving after 9:00 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
Parking
We have very limited parking around Sunset View Elementary. The front of the school is now a 3 minute loading zone. Please be kind to our neighbors by keeping their driveways open and free. The staff parking lot is only for staff and we kindly request that you do not enter the lot. We also strongly encourage you to model good habits for your children by using the crosswalks. Running across Hill St. in front of the school and/or having children exit cars in the middle of the street is dangerous. Please pass this important message along to anyone who may be picking up your children (grandparents, child care provider, etc.). Your child's safety is always top priority and never an inconvenience. We appreciate your help.
