Message from the Principal

Greetings Findley Community~

I hope you all found time to enjoy the beautiful weather we had over the weekend and today.

The International Extravaganza is one of our school community's most beloved events. What a gift our diversity is! Learning about and celebrating all the cultures that make-up our school community elevates us all. A big thank you to everyone who participated. As always, we strive to provide and ensure a fun, informative and inclusive event for our school community. If you have suggestions on how we can improve in any of these areas, please let us know-feedback form is linked below.

I can't believe it, but it's already time to start thinking about next year. Each year, we give our families an opportunity to share information about their student(s) they feel would be helpful for us to know as we make determinations about class placements. Our Parent Input form is now open and accepting responses through May 23, 2025. This form is also linked below.

The Book Fair is coming! Watch Parent Square soon for volunteer shifts available to help support in our annual Book Fair coming April 23-29. We can't do this without you. 😀

With Gratitude,

Sherry Marsh, Ed.D

On May 8, 2025 our 3rd-5th Graders will have a special visit from another author, Ms. Vera Brosgol.

From her website:

Vera Brosgol was born in Moscow, Russia in 1984 and moved to the United States when she was five. She received a diploma in Classical Animation from Sheridan College, and spent many years working in feature animation but now she is writing and drawing books full-time. She likes that very much.

She has storyboarded for Laika on the feature films Coraline, Paranorman, The Boxtrolls, and Kubo and the Two Strings, and was Head of Story for the Academy-Award-winning Pinnochio.

Her first graphic novel, Anya's Ghost, was published in 2011 by First Second Books and won an Eisner Award. Her first picture book, Leave Me Alone, was published in 2016 by Roaring Brook Press and won a Caldecott Honor.

She lives in Portland, OR, and loves hiking, riding her bike, and baking bread. She hopes you are enjoying looking at her drawings.

Upcoming Author Visit

We are thrilled to announce an exciting and inspiring event coming up at our school! On April 18, author Jelani Memory will be visiting us to reinforce our school’s commitment to inclusiveness and diversity. As part of our ongoing focus on fostering safe and welcoming environment for all, we believe this visit will be a powerful opportunity for our students to learn and grow.

About Jelani Memory:

Jelani Memory is the author of the popular children’s book "A Kids Book About Racism"—a part of the "A Kids Book About" series, which explores tough yet important topics with clarity and compassion. His work highlights the importance of understanding different perspectives and celebrating what makes each of us unique. Jelani’s books have helped spark meaningful conversations about diversity, empathy, and inclusivity in classrooms across the country.

Event Details:

  • Date: April 18
  • Time: 8:30-9:00 Grades k-2, 9:10-9:40 Grades 3-5
  • Audience: All students will have the opportunity to participate in this special event, with age-appropriate sessions tailored to different grade levels (K-2 and 3-5)

This visit will give our students the chance to hear directly from Jelani about the power of kindness, respect, and embracing our differences. Through storytelling, discussion, and engaging activities, we hope to inspire our students to continue building a community that is inclusive and compassionate.

How You Can Support:

We encourage you to talk with your child about the themes of inclusiveness and diversity both before and after the event. Here are a few conversation starters to help guide the discussion:

  • What does inclusiveness mean to you?
  • Why is it important to celebrate the differences in others?
  • How can we make sure everyone feels safe and welcomed?

We believe this event will leave a lasting impact on our students and help them better understand the importance of embracing diversity in our school and in the world.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school a place where every child feels valued, heard, and respected.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about this event, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We look forward to this exciting and meaningful event!

Our School is a Drop Off site.

We're teaming up with Toyota to restock the shoe shelves at Clothes for Kids. Our goal is to collect 200 new or gently used pairs of sneakers/athletic shoes by April 20. (Please no sandals or heels.) For every pair of shoes donated, Beaverton Toyota will donate a pair, too (up to $7,500).

Through April 18, drop off donations in the bin by our front office, the District Administrative Office at 1260 NW Waterhouse Avenue or at Beaverton Toyota at 4300 SW Murray Boulevard in Beaverton.

Thank you for supporting BSD students!

Parking Lot Reminder

A quick reminder that students SHOULD NOT be moving through the parking lot without an adult. If you are parking for drop off, please get out of your car and walk your child to the crosswalk. At dismissal, if you are parking, please get out of your car to get your student from the sidewalk. We do not want any students walking in-between the cars in the parking lot without an adult at arrival or dismissal.

This helps keep everyone safe!!

Summer School Update

Currently the district is on a limited and targeted budget as it relates to Summer School. Because of this, we will not be able to offer summer school.

We understand the importance of summer school in supporting our students' academic success and personal growth. If additional funds become available from the state, we are hopeful that we may be able to expand our programming in the future. We will keep you informed of any updates as they arise.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
