Gayman Gazette
June 11th Edition
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL!
It is hard to believe that we have reached the last week of school and that summer break is just around the corner. The Gayman faculty and staff would like to thank you for a wonderful 2023-2024 school year. Your support and cooperation has been noticed and greatly appreciated!
This was my first year as Gayman Elementary Schoolβs principal, and I would personally like to thank you for your acceptance, kindness, and positivity. Gayman is such a special place for learning, and that is because of the respectful and responsible students, the supportive and invested families, and the dedicated educators who make up such a caring educational environment. I am proud to be a part of this school community.
Best wishes to our sixth-grade students as they move on to middle school. They have been terrific role models to our younger students, and they will be missed! To all of our students who will be returning to Gayman next school year, we wish you a safe and fun summer break. We look forward to seeing you at the end of the summer as you return for the 2024-2025 school year!
Enjoy!!!
-Shawn Ortman

2024-2025 CLASS PLACEMENTS
In the summer months, student placement is finalized. Considerable time and attention is given to create well-balanced class groupings that consider the social, academic, and emotional needs of all students.
As you know, all of our teachers are caring, capable, and highly qualified educators. Our job is to support our students by developing confident, resourceful individuals.
Just as in previous years, final class assignments are announced in early August. In the morning of Thursday, August 1st, the 2024-2025 class lists will be announced via the Parent Portal.
We look forward to the excitement that a new school year brings!

THE READING OLYMPICS LISTS HAVE ARRIVED!
Students entering grades 5 & 6 will have a copy of the Elementary Reading Olympics lists sent home with their summer reading information packets. Even if your child is not planning to participate in Reading Olympics, this list provides ideas of great books and authors for summer reading!
Students entering grade 7 will have a copy of the Middle School Reading Olympics list sent home with their summer reading information packets. Again, this list offers many new authors and books for students and families looking for new material, even if they are not planning to participate in the formal program.
These lists were sent home as the cover page of your childβs summer reading information packet. As always, you, as their parent, are the best judge of which books are best for your child. Please preview the books before purchasing them!

TECH TIP
Get ahead of summer screen time struggles by building a family media plan now! Relaxed summer schedules (later bedtimes, fewer organized sports, no homework, etc.) can inadvertently lead to more screen time and an even harder transition into the next school year. Get clear on summer tech use expectations (video games, ipad, smartphone, etc.) and communicate them before the inevitable struggle.
Here's a great free tool from the American Academy of Pediatrics that helps you create a custom media plan for your family!
