A Word from Mrs. Buch and Mr. Walton

Next week will not have school in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving is a time for reflection and to give thanks for the good things in our lives. Certainly, working with the students, staff, and families at Westgate is the top of ours! Thank you for all your support during this trying time. You have amazing children who are loved by the Westgate staff.

For those traveling to other states, the IDPH recommends that you self-quarantine for 14 days upon your return; however, although this is a strong request of the district, this is not a requirement. Please be safe!

Food and Gift Programs

In this current pandemic, money may be tight for your family. If you need support with a Thanksgiving meal, Catholic Charities and United Way are partnering to provide a Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway. They have turkeys and all the fixings available to give away next Friday, November 20.

If you would like to register your family, call their office at their main number: 847-376-2100. Also, Catholic Charities, St. Isaac Jogues Parish, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository are partnering to distribute food on Wednesday, November 25 (4:30-6:00 PM) at St. Isaac Jogues Parish parking lot at 8149 W. Golf Road in Niles. Walk up and drive through food distribution are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Finally, with the winter holidays approaching, please contact the social workers via email (acrump@sd25.org, jpawelski@sd25.org) if you would like to be part of our holiday gift program. Staff will purchase a gift for each child in your family, which will be available to pick up before our December break. Email your child(ren)'s name(s), age(s), and a few gift options for each child (please keep each gift option under $50). Please have this to us by Friday, December 4, 2020.

ABC25 Foundation

The ABC/25 Foundation needs your help! Since our largest fundraiser (ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge), was canceled this year due to COVID-19, we need memberships to continue to support giving grants such as the 5 Apple TVs and the Wolverine Mascot costume Westgate received last year. This year, ABC/25 also donated $25,000 to support remote learning with the purchase of a 2nd monitor for all homeroom teachers so they can see their entire class and what they are teaching.

Memberships are only $40 per family OR the district staff's educator rate is $25. You can join here: https://sd25.revtrak.net/ABC25-Foundation/. Each year, the ABC/25 Foundation grants $2,500.00 to all District 25 schools when 25% of the school's families become members. The grant funds may be used at the school’s discretion. Please consider supporting the mission of the foundation which is “To foster innovation, creativity, and excellence for the children of District 25."
