Eagle Express
April 1-5, 2024
Principal's Corner
Eagles,
This message goes out directly to our students:
Getting Stronger Where It Hurts
Famous writer Ernest Hemingway once said, "The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are strong at the broken places." This means that tough times can make us stronger, especially in the places where we've been hurt or faced challenges.
Hard Times Can Teach Us
Think about this school year. Every hard test, homework assignment, and personal issue can feel like life is testing us. Sometimes, it might even feel like we're breaking a bit. But these challenging times can make us stronger if we learn from them.
What It Means to Be Resilient
Being resilient is about bouncing back from tough times. It's about keeping going, even when things get tough. Resilience is important because it helps us handle challenges better in the future. We learn to be resilient when we talk about struggles in class, at home, with friends. It means we're getting stronger in once-weak places.
It's Okay to Have Tough Times
Hemingway's quote tells us it's okay to have tough times because they can make us stronger. We should support each other when things get hard. Sharing our stories can help others feel like they're not alone. It shows that everyone goes through tough times, and we can get through them together.
How School Helps
School isn't just for learning math or science. It's also where we learn to deal with challenges. Each challenge teaches us something about ourselves and what we can do, and through this, we become more competent and decisive.
Looking Ahead
Let's remember Hemingway's words as we face new challenges. They're chances to get stronger. We can help each other and grow together. Remember, how we deal with tough times shows who we are. Let's face challenges head-on and get stronger where it hurts.
Keep soaring Eagles!

Woodlawn Team,
I hope this letter finds you well.
After eight wonderful years of growing, learning, and achieving together, the time has come for me to embark on a new chapter in my professional journey. I am thrilled to share with you that I will be stepping into the role of Instructional Specialist of Early Childhood Education/Head Start. My last day at Woodlawn will be next Thursday, April 4th. While I am sad to leave behind the familiar halls and faces of Woodlawn, I am also filled with enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead.
Reflecting on my time here, I am struck by the countless memories we have shared, the challenges we have overcome, and the triumphs we have celebrated as a team. From PLC meetings to IB events, from moments of laughter to moments of quiet reflection, each interaction has left an indelible mark on my heart.
One of the greatest joys of my time at Woodlawn has been the relationships I've been fortunate enough to cultivate. Your dedication, passion, and unwavering support have been the driving force behind our collective success, and for that, I am profoundly grateful. I will truly miss coaching you and watching so many of you grow in your craft.
As I prepare to take this next step in my career, please know that I leave with a deep sense of appreciation for the time we've spent together and the experiences we've shared. While I may be saying goodbye to Woodlawn Academy, I am not saying goodbye to the memories we've created or the connections we've forged. I am confident that our paths will cross again, and I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of this remarkable team.
In closing, I want to express my sincerest gratitude to each of you for your hard work, dedication, and friendship over the years. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside you, and I will carry the lessons learned and the memories made with me wherever I go. Please feel free to continue to reach out to me for support, questions, or just to say hello and check in. 🙂 As the saying goes, "Once an Eagle always an Eagle!"
With heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes,
Ms. Uriegas, "Ms. U"
