Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families-- What a great week! With the sun shining I’d say everyone was in a better mood! Here’s some highlights and perspective on this past week.
We had a large contingent of musicians head to the state competition on Thursday, we wish them the best of luck! The state choir group and soloist, Landon Johnson, treated the office staff to two really amazing songs. They performed for us live, right in the office. I admire their courage and talent! Nice touch for our secretaries as this was also the week we celebrated them.
I have to give a shout-out to Ridgeline junior, Mason Fouty. He received an extremely rare award, 1 of 10 in the world! He received this prestigious award from the FIRST World Championships. FIRST means:
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology-- an international youth organization that operates the FIRST Robotics Competition. Mason’s a leader on our robotics team, and I learned Thursday night at the track meet, he’s fast too! He might find himself at MIT one day soon. Read the complete article below.
I’m pictured here today with our Resource officer, Mark Holthaus, on this, his final day serving our school community. Mark has taken a new leadership position with Liberty Lake PD as a Sergeant. We thank him for his service and wish him the best! The big guy next to me is our new SRO, Dave Howard. Dave has been with Liberty Lake PD for about a year and a half. Previously, he was 10 years with Washington State Patrol. Described by some as a “big teddy bear”, he’s going to be a great addition to our school security team! We’re fortunate to have him step up into this role and maintain a high level of security for our students. Welcome Dave!
A reminder for freshman parents and students currently enrolled in health--the Sexual Health curriculum lessons begin on Monday. The parent preview link is available until May 1. It’s always good to be in-the know. Follow this link to our CVSD webpage https://www.cvsd.org/apps/pages/sexualhealth, then click on the Health Smart link to create an account and get access to lesson details.
I always look forward to our National Honor Society induction ceremony, which will take place Monday night. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend with your student. This event is for our NEW inductees. Hope to see you there!
And get your tickets for WIZARD OF OZ! Opening night, May 4. It’s going to be EPIC! See kids doing great things in this world—read the Falcon Flyer…
Enjoy the beautiful weather while it lasts, and as always—Make it a great weekend! Mr. Hardt
Student Services
Do you have a current junior preparing to apply to college next fall?
If your answer to the above question is “yes”, please save the date and plan to join Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org) and Ms. McMurtrey (mmcmurtrey@cvsd.org) for a college exploration and admission session on Thursday, June 1, following the student/staff softball game. In addition to the college exploration and admission processes, we will be joined by the Gonzaga University Financial Aid Director, Sarah Everitt, who will outline the financial aid process (i.e. FAFSA filing, scholarship searches, and other financial aid topics). If you have questions, please contact Mr. Spraggins.
Coming Soon: The Jesuit Excellence Tour
There are 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States, including our very own Gonzaga University. On Monday, May 15, representatives from 14 of the 28 institutions will hold a college fair on the Ridgeline High School campus, meeting with students from 11:15 - 12:15 in the Commons. If you and/or your students have questions, contact Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org).
Dean’s List Award this last weekend at the FIRST World Championships- Mason Fouty
Ridgeline Robotics team captain, Mason Fouty, won a global Dean’s List Award this last weekend at the FIRST World Championships in Houston.
There are 6,400 FTC teams around the world, and each has the opportunity to nominate their most outstanding Sophomore or Junior. 4 were selected from the ~150 Washington teams. 10 were selected from all the regional winners, globally.
The award is named after FIRST founder, Dean Kamen. Admissions officers from Yale and MIT were keynote speakers at the event. Winners get flown to an amazing winner's convention.
His team at Falcons Robotics FTC 19589 could not be more proud, or happy for him.

May Day Liberty Lake
Thank you for supporting the mission and vision of May Day Liberty Lake!
May Day Liberty Lake is not a farmer's market or a vendor fair. It is not intended to be all about sales or consumption. Rather, it is a celebration of our community while welcoming in the changing season. We have been intentional about welcoming and focusing on participants, speakers, and groups that that have expertise or interest in agriculture, gardening, conservation, and nature.
There are so many fantastic virtual ways to support one another - GoFundMe campaigns can change lives and online fundraisers can send kids to camps - but May Day Liberty Lake is a an opportunity for us to PRACTICE true fellowship.
Come together with your community on Saturday April 29th. Enjoy the outdoors! Engage with children in activities! Visit with someone about how to make soap! Learn why someone is so passionate about bees! Hear from experienced farmers about what makes them conservationists! Commiserate over how sick your children have been this year! Make a May Day basket or crown! Offer to help someone carry things to their car! Tell others about your goals for the year! Sign up for a camp!
Thank you for helping us spread the word about, invite our friends and neighbors to, and promote the first annual May Day Liberty Lake!!
