November
Principal's Point
November has flown by, and it's hard to believe that December is already upon us! It’s shaping up to be an exciting month, filled with festive activities and special events. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our wonderful student teachers Megan and Marla, whose growth over the past few months has been remarkable. Their dedication and enthusiasm have made a lasting impact, and we know the students will miss them dearly once they leave. We truly appreciate all they’ve contributed during their time with us.
Monday, December 2 is a busy day, with several events taking place. We’re excited for the Ready to Rock program, which will introduce and engage our students in grades 4-9 in the wonderful sport of curling. The flower fundraiser orders can also be picked up, and we’ll be holding parent-teacher interviews after school. It’s a great opportunity for families to connect with teachers and discuss their child’s progress.
Additionally, we’re looking forward to Evergreen returning this year from December 9-12, where we have some amazing ideas planned for theater skits. Along with the skits, there will be dances, music, and singing—creating a truly festive atmosphere for everyone. As part of our staff skit, we’re on the lookout for any large, full-body Halloween blow-up costumes that the school could borrow for the December 12 concert. If anyone has one and is willing to lend it to us, we would greatly appreciate it!
The final week before the Christmas break is always filled with excitement, and we will be celebrating with a different spirit day dress-up each day. Our caroling tradition continues in Vulcan on December 18 and a new location added to our routine on December 16 at the Siksika Elder Center. Santa will also be making his visit on December 19.
As we head into the colder weather, please remember to bundle up and stay safe. Warm clothing, including snow pants, winter coats, mitts, toques, and scarves, are essential as we navigate this chilly season. Let’s make the most of this joyful time of year!
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will be set up in the Milo School Library for the week of December 9-12th. Students will get a chance to shop during recesses and library classes during the week and there will be a parents shopping time the night of the Evergreen performance.
Social Class with Ms. Smith
In the latest installment of "who had the right to vote" the class explored ancient Greece politics and learned about direct democracy. The grade 6 students gave each of the 4/5 students an identity and they learned if they had the right to vote in ancient Athens based on their social status. The grade 6's came up with an issue to vote on with these 2 methods of voting raising hands or using coloured stones.

Remembrance Day Service
Thank you to Mrs. Walker for arranging the "no Stone Left Alone" program and to all that came to the cenotaph for the program. Thank you to Tracy Mozill for photographing the event for us.
Cardboard Boat Race
Mrs. Woofenden and a team of 4 Jr high girls traveled to the University of Lethbridge to compete in a Cardboard Boat Race hosted by Career Transitions. The students had to design and build a boat made out of 2 sheets of 4 x 8 cardboard, 9 meters of duct tape and 16 meters of packing tape plus one mystery item. The mystery item turned out to be a package of 4 small plastic balls and they had to be incorporated into the design. There were 2 challenges for the water craft to meet, firstly; travel across the pool successfully, secondly; a weight challenge to hold 3 students for one minute. Unfortunately, the girls' boat did not make it across the pool so they were eliminated and did not get to the second challenge. It was a very fun experience for them all!

Gratefully accepting donations for special projects
We are looking for donations of yarn for a crochet project for our students. Any colour and any amount is gratefully welcomed. Also, the kids will be building blue jean patchwork quilts in the new year and we will need quite a few pairs of old jeans to make the squares. Please drop donations off at the school during school hours or contact the school and we can arrange pick up.
Thank you in advance.
