What is the MLK Snapshot?
Clear communication and connecting with families are two of our top priorities at MLK!
The Snapshot is our weekly information newsletter sent every Thursday afternoon. Our hope is that you will be able to use this Snapshot to stay connected with important calendar dates, events, and everything else related to MLK. If you need to - feel free to use the translation option available for all families. Please use the menu at the top of the page!
A Message from the MLK Main Office
MLK Families,
We received word this week that MLK placed in the top 12 schools in the county in the REPLENISH County Food Drive from earlier this year. Our school donated over 1500 pounds of food!! I would like to thank all of the families that donating food items for this terrific initiative, and especially to Mr. Tosies, our 4th grade teacher, for organizing this for our school.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Week of May 6th
A reminder to all of our families, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th through May 10th. I encourage all families to let our teachers know how much we appreciate all they do for our students.
NJSLA Testing 2024
Our state testing continues in the mornings for the next couple weeks at MLK. Please give a look at the attached letter regarding details about our testing!
In addition, please find the attached reminder document about how you can help prepare your child for our testing days!

It's almost that time of year again! Join us for a night of creating, performing, and celebrating the arts.

PTO Board Nominations
It’s that time of year again! We will begin accepting nominations for the Martin Luther King PTO Executive Board. We need dedicated volunteers to fill these positions. Nominations are due by May 31st. Please see attached flyer and form.
Buy Your Yearbook Today!
Please see the attached letter from our yearbook club regarding purchasing your 2023-2024 yearbook.
The price of the yearbook will be tiered into three deadlines. Please see below.
· If purchased between 5/1-5/30, the price of the book will be $15.
· The last day to purchase a yearbook will be on 5/30/2024.

Field Day Volunteers Needed - Friday, May 24th
Martin Luther King School's Annual Field Day is on Friday, May 24, 2024. Please send students in with bagged lunches for the day, as we will be eating outside (no glass containers, please). We also recommend students bring an extra bottle of water and a change of clothing since we will have some water activities.
In order for the day to be successful, safe, and fun, we need many volunteers to help lead the activities. We need volunteers for the outdoor and indoor stations from 8:15-11:00 AM for the fifth graders and 11:15 AM-2:00 PM for the fourth graders. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please complete the form below stating your full name, your child’s name, and which grade you are volunteering for. You are more than welcome to join your child for lunch.
Multi-Cultural Night May 28th - Sign Up to Participate!
Please join us in our first ever multicultural night at King School, on Tuesday, May 28th, from 6 to 7 pm. Enjoy crafts, treats and some dancing. Thank you to all who have signed up to host a table so far.
We are still looking for representation for some countries.

(We already have great representation for Pakistan and India, and are not looking for any more volunteers for those countries.)
5th Grade Field Trips!
5th Grade - Will be going to the Trailside Nature and Science Center in Mountainside in early June. Permission slips will be distributed in mid-May for this trip.
Pillars of Penguin Pride: Trustworthiness Focus in April
This month our students will be focusing on "Trustworthiness" for our Pillars of Penguin Pride program. We will be putting special emphasis on being able to be relied upon as honest or truthful.
