The Owl Post: October 7, 2024
Hello Vernon Families and Friends,
A Huge Thank You for a Fun and Wet Fun for the Owls'!
A big shout-out to Maya Pueo von Geldern, Sue Viens, and all the incredible parent and staff volunteers who helped make Fun for the Owls a great success! We kicked off the day with a light drizzle for our K-1 students, experienced a full downpour for grades 2-3, and wrapped up with a sunny afternoon run for our 4th-8th graders. It was a fun time for all!
While the fun was had on Friday, the fundraiser is still in full swing with a November 1st deadline for pledges that will count toward the prize drawing.
For more information about how prizes work, check out the FFTO page on the Vernon PTA website.
The PTA is also seeking volunteers to help secure prizes before the 11/1 deadline. Most importantly, we encourage families to reach out to friends and family to ask for pledges. Ask your kids how many laps they ran or what their favorite part of the day was—was it running in the rain or dancing to the music? These stories can inspire donors to give! You can donate here.
Our *Fun Run* is Vernon’s biggest PTA fundraiser of the year, supporting important programs like SUN School, field trips, our garden program, classroom supplies, community events, and much more. You can check out the PTA budget to see how these funds are used. Every contribution makes a difference!
Garden Work Party
First family garden party of the year! Saturday, October 12th from 10-noon! Please come and help us and the new garden teacher, Ms. Sable, get the garden cleaned up for fall! We will be doing some major pruning and weeding. Please bring gloves, pruners, and water bottles. We will have some snacks, tunes, and kid activities available. This is a big one for the year and we'd love your help! Please reach out to me (ntessman@gmail.com) or Sable at vernonschoolgarden@gmail.com with any questions.
APPLES! - Order by 11/1, pickup around 11/8
A Fall Farm-Fresh Fundraiser...
The Vernon PTA is partnering with Kiyokawa Family Orchards again to raise funds for our school. You can pre-order 20 pounds of delicious apples and support valuable programs, activities and supplies for our kids.
Check out the options & stock up on fresh apples for snacking and/or fall baking. What goes best with delectable NW apples? Homemade caramel sauce, of course. Add on an 8oz. jar with your apple order for only $7. YUM! Maybe you want to share a box with freinds, or order a few boxes to split up for an entire class. It's pie season and the options are endless!
Honeycrisp - 20 lb. Box $60
Described as "explosively crisp," making an excellent fresh eating apple. The flesh is crisp, dense, and juicy with a good balance of sweet and tart and possessing a delicate aroma. A wonderful all purpose apple that stores remarkably well.
Mixed Premium - 20 lb. Box $55
Mixed premium boxes contain 4 to 5 of the following varieties: Fuji, Gala, Crimson Crisp, Newtown, Red Ruben, Jonagold, Cameo, and Ambrosia. Pretty!
Orders taken until 11/I. Pickup will be around November 8th from a home in the Vernon area. Exaxct time do location to come once the farm confirms our final order.
Place your order here.
