What's Going on at Deal?
World Language Trip Updates
Our Deal team made great progress this week as they work to receive official approval for our World Language Trips. Our trip to Taiwan received their final approval, and we anticipate the other trips will receive their final approval very soon.
For students taking Chinese, you should have received an email from Ms. Liang and Mr. Zhi this week with information about how to register for the trip to Taiwan. If you did not receive that email and would like the registration email, please reach out to yan.liang@k12.dc.gov, yanming.zhi@k12.dc.gov, and yanmingz@msn.com.
For all other trips, we will share registration information as soon as we receive final approval from DCPS. Please note: the registration deadline will approach quickly, so families will need to move quickly to sign up for the trip and submit all forms.
The number one thing families can do to prepare for this trip is ensure their student has a current passport (valid through November of 2025). If your student does not yet have a passport, we strongly recommend your family move quickly to obtain one.
High School Recommendation Requests
All students requesting a recommendation for high school must complete the following steps:
1. Have a personal conversation with your teacher to request a recommendation.
2. Complete the recommendation request form (linked below by team).
3. Share your teachers' email on the school's application site.
4. Send the teacher an email to let them know you completed the form and thank them for their time.
As Deal teachers receive many recommendation requests, all requests should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the application school's deadline and will be completed in the order they are received. Recommendations are completed at the discretion of the teacher. Students are responsible for maintaining positive relationships with their teacher and meeting high academic expectations.
While completing this form, students are required to submit complete, thoughtful responses that reflect the time and energy they expect from their recommending teacher. Incomplete or insufficient responses may result in the teacher not submitting a recommendation.
Recommendation Request Links:
If your student needs a recommendation from a teacher not on these form (including 7th grade teachers), please email that teacher directly.

Hello Woolloomooloo Families!
I hope your scholars are enjoying the four-day weekend! Our team is getting ready to finalize our grades for Advisory 1 and that means Report Cards will be coming out soon! Please be sure to check all aspects of the report card and asking those difficult questions with your children about their grades, tardies and how to improve next advisory. If everything is okay, then celebrate their hard work in Advisory 1!
Speaking of celebrating...we are looking forward to our Team Woolloomooloo Breakfast Celebration for the end of Advisory 1! Our team celebration will be held on 11/8/24 from 8:45 - 9:45 AM (First Period) and will be in the Cafeteria during that time. Please look for our SignUp Genius link below if you'd like to participate or bring in some delicious breakfast treats for our team to celebrate with. I am looking forward to seeing our team celebrate the end of Advisory 1 and looking forward to what Advisory 2 will bring us!
Yesterday our team partcipated in the first Annual Fall Fiesta! We had fun activities that our 8th graders participated in like: potato sack race, 3 legged race, knockerball competition and hula-hoop ring toss. It was truly a fun and amazing time seeing our team celebrate and compete against the other 8th grade teams. Although our team did not win, we did enjoy seeing Mr. Selph and our other 8th graders participate in Fall Fiesta!

Mr. Turchetta - English/Language Arts
Hello everyone!
This week, we took ANET 1 and then we finished A Raisin in the Sun. As we read, students participated in a stop and jot activity, where they wrote down reactions and discussed with their classmates.
Next week, now that we have finished A Raisin in the Sun, we will work on activities that help students process major themes in the book, specifically the American dream.
We will begin reading our next book, 145th Street, in about a month. If you haven't already purchased it. It would be great if you could so the student can have their own copy for in book annotations and assignments for homework.
Have a great weekend!
