🍀Together we are Better...Riders Lead the Way!🍀
March 2024
March is here and with spring around the corner, it is an exhilarating time of year. It will be an exciting and busy month.
On Monday, March 11th, we will hold our College and Career Day. During this time, students will have the chance to hear from our community members and learn about various career opportunities.
Our Booster-Thon fundraiser will begin on Friday, March 8th and run through our Spring Fling Fun Run on March 19th. We would like to thank everyone, in advance, for their support in helping us reach our goal of $12,000 to support new playground enhancements like basketball hoops and a shade structure. We are grateful for our W. Reily Brown Elementary School Community!
Please join us on Thursday, March 21st for a Showcase of the Arts. We have a performance by our Chorus and Step Team beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Mrs. Costa will have student artwork on display for your enjoyment. We hope to see you there as the students display their hard work and dedication.
Congratulations to Ms. Mary Schleifer, third grade teacher, who was recently selected as W. Reily Brown’s 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year. We are so proud to have Ms. Schleifer represent the phenomenal teachers of W. Reily Brown!
Enjoy more daylight and warmth ahead of us this month!

Habit #6, Synergize, means together is better. One way you can practice this at home is by playing a board game involving partners. Another way you can practice synergizing is by working with someone to assemble a puzzle.
On March 21st, everyone will wear crazy socks for World Down Syndrome Day. We are raising awareness for people with Down Syndrome. If you want to buy socks, they are $2 a pair. Thank you to everyone who donated to Code Purple. The total items donated were 1,684 items. Congratulations to the 4th grade for donating the most items.

Five “5” rules to being a Fit Kids
The trick is to follow these rules most of the time, knowing that some days (like your birthday) might call for cake and ice cream.
1. Eat a variety of foods. Eat food that are all of the colors of the rainbow. (red, orange, green, yellow, blue, purple- and that does NOT include Takis) 😊
2. Drink water and milk. Avoid drinking soda and juice as those are both very high in sugar. You should drink eight (8) - 8 oz glasses of water a day. You can even eat foods that are high in calcium (like broccoli, cheese, yogurt, low sugar cereals that say “high in calcium” on the box, and eggs).
3. Listen to your body. When you are eating, stop when you no longer feel hungry. Most of the time, our bodies are thirsty. So, it is very important to keep drinking water throughout the day.
4. Limit screen time. That means, TV, handheld games, video games, computer, social media / videos on the phone. Your screen time should be no more than 2 hours a day.
5. BE ACTIVE! Go outside and play! And if you can’t play outside…Dance in your kitchen!

Student Personal Safety
This month in SEL, we will be focused on student safety. To help make our schools even safer and more supportive, we will use the Second Step Child Protection Unit. In these lessons, students will learn three types of skills:
• Personal Safety. Students will learn important safety rules, such as safety with guns, sharp tools, and fire, and when riding on wheels or in cars. They will also learn ways to help them decide if something is safe or not.
• Touching Safety. Students will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and rules about touching private body parts. They’ll also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches, and to tell an adult if someone breaks rules about touching private body parts.
• Assertiveness. These lessons will also give students a chance to practice asking an adult for help, telling an adult about an unsafe situation, and being assertive to get out of unsafe situations.
You can access information on what your child will be learning in the Second Step Child Protection Unit at www.secondstep.org. Please contact Ms. Stone for login activation keys to get more information about what your child is learning. Thank you for helping to make our schools a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
If you have any questions about the Child Protection Unit or the Second Step program, please contact Dr. Jennifer Martin, CRSD Supervisor, at Jennifer.Martin@cr.k12.de.us or by contacting me, Ms. Stone, at 302-697-2101 or Jennifer.Stone@cr.k12.de.us.
