🏫 A Note from your Administration 🏫
Hello, Husmann Parents & Guardians!
Since we have now been in school for a few weeks, your child has become familiar with the classroom schedule, routines and what types of things happen during each subject area.
Take some time each day to not only ask them how their day was, but more specifically ask questions such as: What book did your teacher read aloud during Shared Reading time? What literacy station(s) were you in today and what did you work on? What did your class work on during Number Corner today? Who have you been playing with during recess time? What have you been doing in each of the Encore classes (PE, LMC, STEM, ART, MUSIC) today/this week?
Those questions will generate a lot of discussion and allow your child to share specifics about their day! Should you have further questions, depending on what is/what is not shared, please reach out to the classroom or encore teacher directly for clarification.
Have a great week!
Your Partners in Education,
Mr. Sromek, Principal & Ms. Fitzgerald, Assistant Principal
🗽 Veteran's Day Slideshow 🗽
Our Husmann Family will again be celebrating Military Veterans who are near and dear to our hearts. If you have a veteran in your family you'd like to celebrate with us, please send an image (and include their branch if not clearly visible) to Becky Vedder at rvedder@d47.org by October 31st. We still have the images from last year so if you sent one then, no need to send another unless you'd like to.
🚨 Emergency Contacts in ParentVUE 🚨
Please check your child's account and ensure that the Emergency Contact Info is current and correct. Things to look at:
- The order of who is called first
- Make sure phone number is current
If any changes need to be made, please call the main office at 815-356-3400.
🍎 Same D47 App, New Look! 🍎
The District 47 app has gotten a fresh, new look but still offers all the same features and resources! Please accept the one-time popup of the privacy statement, it is something all apps have and once acknowledged it will not show up again. Thanks for your cooperation!
💛💜 Second Step 💜💛
We want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development.
While excelling in academic classes is important, children also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others.
All classrooms K-5 will participate in Second Step® Elementary lessons, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve children’s social-emotional skills.
Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help children both in and out of school.
Four units will cover the following:
Growth Mindset & Goal-Setting: Children learn how to pay attention and manage distractions, develop a growth mindset, and apply goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.
Emotion Management: Children learn how to identify and label emotions and use emotionmanagement strategies—including stress management for older students—to calm strong feelings.
Empathy & Kindness: Children learn how to recognize kindness and act kindly, have empathy for others and take others’ perspectives, and recognize kind acts and empathy as important elements of building and maintaining relationships.
Problem-Solving: Children learn how to identify and state a problem, recognize if a problem is an accident, and use the STEP problem-solving process:
S: Say the problem
T: Think of solutions
E: Explore the outcomes
P: Pick a solution
You’ll receive Second Step Family Letter communications at the beginning of each unit from your child’s teacher to help you reinforce Second Step language, skills, and goals at home.
Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community.
🚌 Dismissal Changes 🚌
In order to safely coordinate the dismissal of all of our students, we ask that you inform the main office of any and all changes for your child. We will work with the teachers to make sure that all students go to the proper location. However, in order to manage this in the best way possible, we will NOT be accepting ANY dismissal changes after 3pm. We appreciate your partnership in keeping all of our kiddos accounted for.
