Summer Update-August 2024
Principal Message
Dear Gleason Families,
I hope everyone had a safe and fun summer. We are excited to welcome back our Tigers on August 19, 2024. We are looking forward to another fantastic school year. For the 2024-2025 school year, we are expecting approximately 932 students. We are also excited to welcome our new families to Gleason. You will receive a monthly newsletter on the first Friday of the month. Be sure to include your email address when registering your child. For our existing families, please be sure you have completed the Annual Student Update that was sent by the district. If you know of a family not receiving monthly communication, please ask them to email us at gleason@cfisd.net.
Please read the following information for important campus and district information.
School Hours/Attendance: Our school hours are 8:45 – 4:10. Attendance will be taken daily at 10:25 a.m. It is important that students are in class by 8:45 am as that is when learning begins. If arriving after 8:45, please park and escort your child into the building to be signed in.
First Day of School: We want all of our students to have a safe and memorable first day of school. It is important that we greet students, get them safely to their correct classroom, and begin the day. For safety and security reasons, parents will not be allowed in the building to walk students to class. We will have lots of support to assist students in finding their classrooms. We will have plenty of staff to help assist with getting your child’s school supplies back to their classroom. Please be sure to put your child’s name on all bags. We also ask that you please put your child’s legal first and last name inside their backpack.
Transportation Changes for 2024-25: Our district has adopted a new transportation plan for the upcoming school year. As a result, there have been changes to bus transportation for the upcoming school year. At the elementary level, if you live less than one mile from our campus, your child will not be eligible for bus transportation. Please visit the district website and click on the “Bus Information” section to see if your student is eligible for bus transportation. I’ve also included the link below:
Please visit the 2024-25 Transportation Parent Information for detailed information and to see how these changes might affect you.
To determine your child’s eligibility for bus service, please visit the CFISD link to the myride app http://myridek12.tylerapp.com/
With the changes in bus service, we anticipate more car riders and walkers/bikers than last year.
o The morning car rider line will follow the same procedures as last year. We anticipate following the similar procedures in the afternoon. Please carpool, if possible, to help with any delays because of additional cars.
o There will continue to be a crossing guard for walker/bikers.
o If your child is planning on riding their bike, it is highly recommended that they use a bike lock.
Arrival: We will stagger the unloading of buses to reduce traffic in the hallways and breakfast lines. Staff will be on hand to guide our car riders, walkers/bikers and students arriving from daycare to class. Students will begin entering the building at 8:25 am.
Dismissal: Please be patient as we maintain our procedures during dismissal. Car riders will be dismissed through the front door. Teachers will escort students to buses on a staggered schedule. Walkers and bikers will exit through the gate on Willowbridge Park Blvd. All pre-kindergarten and kindergarten walker/biker students must be released to an adult or older sibling (6th grade or higher). Students attending Club Rewind will not be dismissed until all car riders are gone.
Safety and Security: We have many safety and security procedures we will be following to ensure the safety of our staff and students:
- Visitors MUST check in at the front door with proper ID, and share the purpose of the visit before entrance will be permitted.
- In order to effectively teach students our routines and procedures, parent lunch visitors will be allowed on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning the 6th week of school, Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
- All doors and gates will remain locked and secured at all times.
- We will continue using one-way hallways when moving through the building.
Student Dress Code: Appropriate student dress and grooming are important factors in the safe and orderly operation of the schools. Each student’s appearance should reflect a positive image of the school and contribute to a distraction-free learning environment. Please refer to the District Student Handbook for complete information regarding dress code. Students are not to wear clothing that is tight, loose, sagging, baggy, revealing, spaghetti-strap, backless, low cut or short. We will follow the district dress code policy. The district dress policy can be found by going to www.cfisd.net and entering “Student Dress Code'' in the search box.
