PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Grade 9 Exam Break
Much like grade 10-12 students, grade 9 students have exams during the exam break AND review sessions. See the exam schedule for details. If there is no exam or review session, students are welcome to go home. Should a student decide to remain in the building, they will be asked to go to the library to study quietly for their next exam.
January 2025 Exam Schedule
Friday, January 17, 2025, is the last day of classes for semester one. January 17 - 27 will be the exam break other than part A of ELA and Social Studies 30 diplomas being on January 14 and 15. Please see the attached schedule of exams and reviews.

Dual Credit Course
We are excited to announce the availability of Dual Credit courses for the upcoming semester!
Dual Credit allows high school students to earn both high school and post-secondary credits simultaneously. This unique opportunity provides students with a head start on their college education while still in high school. This opportunity would be for grade 11 and 12 students primarily; however, strong grade 10 students could be considered.
For this academic year, we are offering:
Sociology 1000
Psychology 1040
These courses are offered by NorQuest College and are transferable to both Grant MacEwan University, Concordia University and the University of Alberta.
Dual Credit offers numerous benefits, including:
Reduced college tuition costs: Earn college credits while only paying the textbook fee.
Early exposure to post-secondary education: Gain valuable college experience and prepare for the transition to university.
Enhanced academic rigor: Challenge yourself with college-level coursework.
Improved college readiness: Develop essential skills for success in higher education.
We encourage you to discuss this exciting opportunity with your student. More information, including course descriptions, eligibility requirements, and registration details, will be available soon.

SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS
GSACRD Voice - Peace and Mental Health
As a parent of a teen, you've likely been met with the all-too-familiar one-word response when asking about their day: "Good." It’s a frustrating encounter, especially when you're genuinely interested in what’s going on in their world. It can feel like pulling teeth trying to get any real details about their experiences at school, with friends, or even how they’re feeling.
So, why does this happen? Teens are navigating a lot of changes during these years—social dynamics, academic pressures, emotional growth, and, of course, the desire for independence. It's not unusual for them to retreat into a shorthand language when talking with family. After all, most teens don’t see their parents as their go-to source for sharing every bit of information about their day. But don’t despair! With a little patience and some creative strategies, you can help foster a more open and meaningful conversation.
Big Life Journal has provided some easy tips for engaging in meaningful conversation with your child, allowing you to connect on a deeper level.

How Long Can You Hold Your Breath?
Gospel Reading - John 2:1-11
2nd Sunday Ordinary Time - Year C
In this reading Jesus calls his mom, Mary, "woman". I dare you to try that and see how long you'll be locked in your room. What the heck?! Was he being disrespectful? Or can we trust that Jesus is always "love at work"?
