Bookcliff Middle School
October, 2024
Hello Bookcliff Families,
It's always amazing how quickly the first quarter of the school year goes! Your student's final quarter grades should be available to view on ParentVue. Next week on the 23rd, we invite you to drop in for parent-teacher conferences from 3:30-7:30 to visit with your child's teachers. Our format is open house, and we have sent out information to our non-DIA Spanish speaking families if they would like to sign up for interpretation.
This month's newsletter features some of the good things happening here at Bookcliff, information from our student handbook, how parents can be more involved in our school, and the importance of regular attendance for students.
As we start the second quarter, our teachers are working hard to implement some new procedures into their classrooms, based on the recent learning and goal setting we've done with our CLAVES and Strive consultants. We will begin by focusing on increased student engagement through purposeful peer to peer interaction. Later in the quarter, we will work to improve vocabulary and reading instruction across all contents.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Brian Dickes, BMS Principal

Good Things!
Improvement in Student Behavior Data
As of October 1, behavior referrals are down 25% compared to the same time last year! Our efforts to acknowledge and celebrate our students and their good choices seems to be working. Thanks to our teachers for their efforts in positive messaging to students!
Adopt-a-Family Fundraiser
We are thrilled to announce a fun and engaging fundraiser to benefit our Adopt-a-Family holiday program!
We have placed five collection jars on the front office counter. Each jar represents one of our amazing BMS educators. There is one each for Ms. Allen, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Lamble, Mrs. Lolis, and Ms. D-C where students (or adults!) can contribute to support our school fundraiser. The twist? The teacher whose jar raises the most money will put on a special show by dancing in a turkey costume in front of the whole school at our Thanksgiving assembly!
This is a fantastic way to get our students excited about giving back while having a great time! We encourage you to discuss with your children how they can contribute, whether it’s a few coins or a little more.
Let’s rally together for a wonderful cause, and may the best teacher get ready to strut their stuff!
Thank you so much for your support!
Volleyball Success
Congratulations to our volleyball players for a successful season!
CMAS Results Show Student Growth
Our school's score increased by 2 points from the previous year. We believe our work to improve student learning will lead to even more growth this year.
Halloween Costumes
Students may wear costumes to school on October 31st if they wish. However, costumes must still follow our school's dress code and safety expectations. Students may not wear masks, face paint, blood, or hats. Weapons, real or fake, are also not allowed.

Our next Parent Involvement Team/School Accountability Committee meeting will be held November 4th from 3:30-4:15 in the school library. Come find out about school initiatives and ways you can support Bookcliff staff and students! Please click the link below for more information.

Parent Liaison Calls

A note from our counselors
Grief Group Coming Soon!
The school counselor in cooperation with a Youth Counselor from Hope West Kids, will co-facilitate a grief group for students at BMS. Any student who has experienced the death of a special person is welcome and encouraged to attend. Each session will include grief education and small group discussion. Activities such as writing, art, and literature will assist participants in coping with issues of grief and loss. Students may pick up a permission slip in the counseling office or the main office. For questions call your student's school counselor.
