if your child took the CMAS test in TSD last year, they will receive a printed copy of the test results on October 17th during ELO. Please reach out to your student's grade level office with any questions.

Preparing our students for post-secondary education is integral to Mountain View High School’s Mission. I spend much of my time helping students prepare for the next stage of life. In doing so, one of my concerns is the increasing cost of college and college loan debt for our families.

Some Facts:

• The average cost of college in the United States is $35,720 per student per year. The cost has tripled in 20 years, with an annual growth rate of 6.8%.
• The average public university student borrows $37,388 to attain a bachelor’s degree.
• Since Spring 2021, the average student loan debt has increased by 2.74%.

So, are college degrees important? YES. In every measure of economic well-being and career attainment—from personal earnings to job satisfaction to the share employed full time—young college graduates are outperforming their peers with less education (Pew Research Center, Feb. 2014).

I want our families to be armed with the information to get there in the best way.

On Thursday, November 9th from 6:00-7:30pm, the College Funding Coach will offer a free in-person event at Mountain View High School. The purpose of this workshop is to help parents understand college costs and plan for the best ways to pay for them.

The ASVAB is a good career exploration tool, can count towards the testing graduation requirement, and is required for anyone who wants to enlist in the military (but is only shared with the military if parents sign a permission form to have the scores shared). The Pathfinder Work-Based Learning Program provides a continuum of real-world opportunities for students at all levels to explore career paths while gaining valuable work experience, building career and college readiness skills, and making valuable connections to the community.

Work-Based Learning Continuum: Students of every age and grade level are exploring careers! Through meaningful field experiences and tours, guest speakers, career fairs, and the ICAP, students learn about work. Project-based learning, internship, and work experiences students learn through work. And students now have the opportunity to learn at work by participating in a multi-year paid apprenticeship. Pathfinder Internship and Pathfinder Apprenticeship represent the highest level of work-based learning opportunities offered by the Thompson School District, and both fulfill the Career Pathway Elective graduation requirement for high school students. MVHS Book Club is excited to announce our next book club pick! We are currently reading The Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley. Grab a copy to read and join us for a discussion of the book on Thursday, November 9th during lunch.

The LUC Club mission statement is to create respectful, affirming, and supportive environments within schools to empower students to advocate for themselves and to support each other in the positive growth of their cultural awareness and self-identity. Starting this school year, Thompson School District has adopted a "Clear Bag Policy" that will be in place for football games at Ray Patterson and Max Marr Stadiums.

Level the Playing Field

The Student Athlete Fund removes barriers for Thompson School District student athletes to access opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessible because of financial need. The Student Athlete Fund is intended as a last resort to fill gaps or shortfalls when other funding sources can’t meet the full need of the opportunity and are intended to level the playing field for our student athletes.

Examples of opportunities include:

-Registration fees for activities and sports

-Letter Jackets

-Personal athletic gear (e.g., track shoes, soccer cleats, mouth guards, etc.)

-Practice items (e.g., practice suits, gloves, etc.)

If you are in need of a Chromebook or have any issues with your device, please see a MVHS library staff member.

It is a TSD expectation that every student checks out a district issued device to use while on campus. It is also a TSD expectation that students bring their device fully charged and ready to use every day to class. Students are responsible for damages and/or loss of the Chromebook device that is assigned to them. The replacement cost for all device models is $245 per the TSD website. Please see the Thompson School District Tech4All website for more information and to read the Acceptable Use Policy.

TOL students will get their devices from TVHS and will need to reach out to them regarding the best time to pick those up.

SOARS students will get their devices from their home school. MVHS SOARS students can contact Mrs. Bass or Mrs. Gebhardt at 970- 613-7859 to coordinate a time to pick up a device.

Please note that a device for the 23-24 school year will NOT be given to students who have outstanding Chromebook devices from MVHS or other TSD schools AND/OR students who have outstanding fines for lost Chromebooks.

With Tech4All, students will have the opportunity to harness the full potential of technology in their educational journey. Each student will receive a TSD digital learning device, ensuring equitable access to resources and enabling personalized learning experiences.

Your child’s device will serve as their digital learning tool for as long as they remain in the Thompson School District. Each year their device will transition to their next grade level and will be replaced when they transition to Middle School or High School.

Students and families are responsible for the care and safety of their district device. Students are expected to bring their device with them to class, charged and ready to go each day. All students will receive documentation on how to maintain their device, keep it safe, digital citizenship and any school specific requirements for digital learning using their district Tech4All device.

Tech4All is not just a program; it's a commitment to bridge the digital divide and empower our students to thrive in the digital age. Together, we will embark on a transformative educational journey that prepares our students for a future filled with innovation and opportunity. There may be questions as we implement Tech4All.
