May Newsletter Memorial School
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Memorial families,
It is hard to believe that the school year is already coming to a close. This year has truly been a whirlwind! As we wrap up, I would like to take a few moments to personally extend a thank you to our incredible school staff who works very hard on a daily basis to guide our children and help them learn and grow. We would be hard pressed to find a more caring and dedicated group of teachers. To all our parents, I would like to say thank you for trusting us with your children, and for your support to provide a quality education for our children.
As I reflect on the school year I am encouraged by many positive things that have happened throughout the year. We welcomed some new families into our school and our boys' basketball team made it to the Final 4! Overall our students scored higher than the district levels at most grade levels on state level assessments. We are once again, the highest-performing elementary school on the eastside. We will be saying good-bye to our wonderful group of 8th graders, many of whom have been here since Kindergarten or first-grade. We are very proud of each of them and wish them well in their futures. They will always have a home at Memorial.
Next year, we will continue pushing our scholars with rigorous instruction. Please take your children to the library this summer, take them to the wonderful museums we have here in Cleveland, and spend some time at the beach. We are so lucky to live so close to Lake Erie. Keep your children busy with positive, structured activities and sports. The Rainey Institute offers music lessons and please look online for summer basketball, cheerleading, or volleyball camps. Busy children don't have time to get into trouble!
In closing, on behalf of the staff at Memorial School, we wish everyone a very happy, healthy and safe summer break. We will look forward to hearing about all the fun and exciting learning experiences your families have enjoyed over the summer!
Love,
Mrs. Dinkins
MR. NEAL'S PBIS PUBLICATION
For the month of May, the PBIS incentive for scholars is the Game Truck & Spa Bus. Scholars need to earn 15 Memorial bucks! They can also spend their Memorial dollars in the store on different items! Scholars earn their Memorial bucks by displaying respect, and responsibility, and being ready to learn in their classrooms, hallways, bathroom, cafeteria, outside areas, buses, offices or clinics, computer labs, or at arrival and dismissal.
Families, you can support this initiative by discussing positive behaviors and what respect looks like and sounds like with your child/children.

MRS. PETRO'S FOURTH GRADE NEWS
In the 4th grade we are going to finish the year strong with some exciting and a little weird activities and books. We have finished our state testing for reading and math.We do not expect the results until the end of the school year. Be on the lookout for summer school information. This is an excellent way to keep the momentum going. Also, the transition back to school will be much easier. If your child would like to borrow a book to read at home all they need to do is ask. When they are finished return it to class and show me the book. Happy Reading!!

MRS. KLINE'S 4TH GRADE NEWS
Hello and Welcome to Spring!
In 4th grade we are starting our end-of-year math project. We will be working in cooperative groups to create our very own board games. The games will have a theme and all of the questions will be based on group members’ favorite fourth grade math topic.
Remember students have math homework in their Simple Solutions books Monday through Thursday. It is important they complete the homework, attempting each question to the best of their abilities and utilizing the Help Pages (they begin on pg. 281) when they get stuck. The Simple Solutions lessons allow students to review past skills, practice current skills, and some previewing of 5th grade math skills. As such, it is imperative that every question is attempted, and the Help Pages are utilized nightly.
In social studies students are learning about the founding of Ohio and The United States of America. Students will be engaged in reading, writing and discussing the promises of our country at its founding. They will also spend some time evaluating if those promises have been met for all Americans. Students will also be learning about the importance of civic engagement to make sure our government is one that is, in the words of the great Abraham Lincoln, “…of the people, by the people and for the people, and shall not perish from this Earth.”
As the year wraps up, students will begin learning about their final 4th grade character virtue: Joyfulness. They are going to take time to reflect on why joyfulness is important; students will analyze the role joyfulness plays in both connecting all the other virtues we’ve studied and in keeping us virtuous in our words and actions.
All the best,
Mrs. Kline

From the Pen of Ms.K. Holton
We’re making it to the Finish Line Strong!!! We are winding down with our Ohio State Testing. Two weeks ago, we took the Reading Tests… Part I and Part II. Today we took Part I of the Math test, and tomorrow, we will tackle Part II. We also are taking Science next Monday and Tuesday..
As the School Year is coming to an end, we will be doing some fun activities. However, students who cannot control their behavior, complete classwork and homework assignments will not be invited to participate. Although testing is winding down, we are still working hard preparing for 6th Grade.
Summer School is offered again this year, and you can sign up in the Parent Portal. I advise all parents to sign students up for a reinforcement and a refresher. I will be looping with this class next year, so I am excited and I’m looking forward to working with the same students again.
We are still in need of pencils, so if you would like to donate to our class, it is very much appreciated!!
Lastly, Let’s make these last few days fun and successful!!!
Enjoy your Summer with a lot of fun in the sun, and relaxation, but most importantly be careful out there. Oh and don’t forget to read 35 minutes a day and practice those math facts to keep those minds sharp!!!
As always, Thank you for your continued time, support, and a great year!!!
Many Blessings,
Ms. Holton
